Help Launch Turco Legal's Maine Office

Turco Legal is expanding into Maine, and we're looking for an exceptional family law attorney to help build and lead our presence in the state. This is a rare opportunity to join one of New England's largest boutique family law firms while playing a leadership role in launching our Maine practice.

If you have at least five years of experience primarily practicing family law in Maine and are looking for more than just another lateral move, we'd love to speak with you.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced family law attorneys who enjoy building relationships, mentoring younger attorneys, and helping shape the future of a growing firm, but who would rather spend their time practicing law than managing payroll, accounting, technology, marketing, recruiting, human resources, and the countless other responsibilities that come with running a law practice. At Turco Legal, our experienced administrative and operational teams handle those responsibilities so our attorneys can focus on serving clients and practicing law at the highest level.

This opportunity may be particularly appealing if you've ever considered opening your own practice or becoming a partner in a small firm but have hesitated because of the business responsibilities that come with it. We're looking for someone who enjoys practicing independently, exercising sound judgment, and collaborating with colleagues when additional perspective is valuable.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

Represent clients in a broad range of family law matters, including divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, child support, spousal support, modifications, enforcement and contempt actions, guardianships, adoptions, name changes, and related family law proceedings.
Manage a sophisticated caseload from initial consultation through resolution.
Prepare for and appear at hearings, judicial settlement conferences, mediations, depositions, trials, and other court proceedings.
Negotiate fair and practical settlements whenever possible while preparing every case for trial when necessary.
Develop and implement case strategy as matters evolve.
Develop discovery strategy, including determining evidentiary needs and the appropriate timing of discovery.
Perform legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, discovery responses, correspondence, and settlement documents.
Collaborate with and mentor associate attorneys as our Maine team grows.
Work closely with experienced paralegals and legal assistants to deliver exceptional client service.

Minimum Qualifications

Please apply only if you meet the following minimum qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Maine.
At least five years of experience primarily handling family law matters in Maine.
Comprehensive knowledge of complex financial issues arising in divorce, including business valuations, executive compensation, equity interests, forensic accounting, vocational assessments, and related financial matters.
Extensive experience handling complex cases involving parental rights and responsibilities, relocation, domestic violence, substance use disorders, and mental health issues.
Demonstrated willingness to take appropriate cases through trial when settlement is not in the client's best interests.
Excellent legal research, writing, advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail and exceptional case management abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and modern legal technology.
Reliable transportation.
A willingness to work primarily in the Portland area as we establish our Maine office. During the initial launch period, work arrangements may be flexible while we finalize our permanent office location.

Preferred Qualifications

The following are not required but would be considered a plus:

Certified Financial Litigator (CFL) designation.
Experience handling family law appeals.
Experience litigating interstate or international family law matters.
Experience using modern practice management software.
Interest in mentoring junior attorneys.
Interest in advancing to a Partner or Partner in Charge role.
