Full Job Description

The Pastry Chef is responsible for overseeing the preparation, production, presentation, and quality of all pastry and dessert items while maintaining Agora Restaurants’ standards for consistency, freshness, food safety, and presentation.

This position plays an important role in maintaining the quality and identity of Agora’s dessert and pastry program. The Pastry Chef is expected to demonstrate strong technical knowledge, creativity, organization, and attention to detail while ensuring that production is completed efficiently and according to operational needs.

The Pastry Chef works closely with the Executive Chef and kitchen leadership to maintain product consistency, control food costs and waste, manage production levels, and ensure the pastry operation supports the overall standards and goals of the restaurant.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Pastry Production & Quality

Prepare and execute pastries, desserts, baked goods, and related components according to established recipes and presentation standards.
Ensure consistency in taste, texture, portion size, appearance, and overall product quality.
Maintain high standards of freshness and quality throughout preparation, storage, and service.
Ensure proper preparation and availability of pastry items based on anticipated business volume.
Monitor finished products and correct quality or presentation issues before service.
Maintain accurate recipes, preparation methods, and portioning standards.

Kitchen Operations & Organization

Plan and organize daily pastry production according to restaurant needs, reservations, events, and expected volume.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient pastry production area.
Ensure proper labeling, dating, rotation, storage, and handling of all pastry ingredients and finished products.
Maintain appropriate levels of ingredients, supplies, and prepared products.
Communicate product shortages, equipment issues, or operational concerns to culinary management promptly.
Complete opening, production, and closing responsibilities as required.

Inventory & Cost Control

Monitor pastry inventory and assist with ordering ingredients and supplies.
Maintain appropriate production levels to minimize unnecessary waste and overproduction.
Follow established portioning standards and recipes to support food cost objectives.
Monitor ingredient usage, product yields, and waste.
Properly receive, inspect, store, and rotate pastry-related products and ingredients.

Food Safety & Sanitation

Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and health department requirements.
Ensure proper temperature control and storage of ingredients and finished products.
Maintain pastry equipment, tools, refrigeration, and work areas in clean and sanitary condition.
Follow company procedures regarding allergen awareness, cross-contamination prevention, and safe food handling.
Immediately report food safety, sanitation, or equipment concerns to management.

Leadership & Teamwork

Provide guidance and training to team members involved in pastry preparation when applicable.
Maintain effective communication with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and other kitchen team members.
Coordinate production and service needs with restaurant leadership.
Support the kitchen team during high-volume operations and special events as necessary.
Maintain a professional, respectful, and team-oriented working environment.
Demonstrate accountability, urgency, consistency, and attention to detail.
Lead by example and uphold Agora Restaurants’ culinary and professional standards.

Menu Development & Continuous Improvement

Collaborate with culinary leadership on new desserts, seasonal offerings, and menu improvements.
Assist with recipe testing, plating development, and product evaluation.
Identify opportunities to improve quality, consistency, efficiency, and presentation.
Stay knowledgeable about pastry techniques, ingredients, and production methods relevant to the restaurant’s concept.
Perform other duties as assigned by culinary or senior management.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
