Full Job Description

Full-time Operating Room Nurse needed at Rush SurgiCenter, an ambulatory surgery center located in the Rush University Medical Center campus. Come be a part of our growing team. Surgical experience required. Orthopedic, Ophthalmology & scrub experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in the Center. Must demonstrate the knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Centers policies and procedures.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, medical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variable.
Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.
Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, coworkers, and other health team members.
Ability to function effectively in stressful situations.
Ability and willingness to adjust schedule (trade or work extra) to meet the needs of Center.
When functioning in the “Float” role – make sure all supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures of the next day(s) are appropriately arranged via contacting the requesting surgical service and/or representatives. Able to correct and/or update scheduling changes related to preference cards and/or procedures. Cover break and/or lunch relief for unit OR staffing.
Creates and maintains a safe and comfortable environment which surgery can take place
Assess the health status of the patient by collecting data via:
Patient interview
Performance of a physical assessment for all age groups according to the plan of care.
Recognizes variances in the assessment which are normal/abnormal for the age group.
Review of records
Consultation with other members of the perioperative team.

Organizes a plan of care that incorporates physician prescribed treatments, nursing assessments and diagnostic data in a manner that:

Is prioritized
Is timely
Is integrated with the surgical plan of care.
Gathering supplies, x-rays and instruments/equipment for cases.

Demonstrates ability to circulate by:

Appraises cleanliness of rooms and proper function of equipment.
Sets up needed equipment pertinent to patient care.
Assists anesthesia intraoperatively
Carefully preps surgical site.
Assists in proper patient positioning.
Prepares and labels specimens correctly.
Accompanies patient and anesthesia to PACU
Demonstrates knowledge of a variety of surgical procedures.
Performs additional duties as needed.

Implements, documents and evaluates the plan of care in a manner that:

Reflects management of identified problems
Reflects observations of patient’s response to treatment.
Integrates physician’s orders into the plan.
Demonstrates appropriate prioritization.
Reflects collaboration with physicians and other members of the team.
Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate administration of medications and treatments according to policy, procedure and protocol.
Reevaluates and modifies the plan of care as indicated.

Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Basic computer knowledge
OR Room Experience (Orthopedic experience preferred)

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Has a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State
Current BCLS certification
Current ACLS certification preferred or basic EKG or Arrhythmia identification certification

Work Remotely

Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
