A warm, welcoming family in Durham is seeking a dependable, proactive, and engaging Nanny & Family Assistant to care for their two energetic boys (ages 2.5 and 5) while helping keep their household running smoothly. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys being active with children, takes initiative around the home, and is looking for a long-term position with a collaborative family.
Both parents are physicians with demanding schedules and are looking for a caregiver who can become a trusted extension of their family. While one or both parents may occasionally be working from home, sleeping after overnight shifts, or coming and going throughout the day, they value open communication, teamwork, and a nanny who is confident taking ownership of the day-to-day flow of the household.
Schedule
The family anticipates needing 3–4 days, generally from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
They are willing to offer a minimum guarantee between 25 and 32 hours, depending on the nanny's preferred schedule and responsibilities
During the school year:
- The oldest child attends school from 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
- The youngest attends preschool Monday–Friday from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Additional hours may occasionally be needed for:
- School holidays and breaks
- Sick days
- Early or late workdays
On full-day childcare days, hours may range from 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., with occasional needs as early as 7:30 a.m. or as late as 7:30 p.m. (though not on the same day). The family provides schedules as far in advance as possible.
About the Children
These two brothers are active, curious, and full of energy. They love spending time outdoors riding bikes, running, throwing balls, building with Legos, baking, and exploring new activities. The family hopes to find a nanny who naturally enjoys keeping up with busy boys, someone who is just as happy organizing a fun outing as they are kicking a soccer ball in the backyard or running alongside a bike.
The family also has nearby relatives and would love a nanny who is comfortable meeting grandparents or cousins for occasional playdates (while remaining responsible only for the two boys).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include providing attentive, engaging care while fostering a fun, nurturing environment. During preschool and school hours, the family would love support with household management tasks that help keep the home organized and running efficiently.
Responsibilities may include:
- Planning engaging, age-appropriate activities and outings
- Preparing healthy meals and snacks for the children
- Children's laundry
- Folding parents' laundry as time allows
- Organizing children's bedrooms, toys, and play spaces
- Resetting and maintaining commonly used spaces, including the kitchen and play areas
- Helping create organized systems that keep the household functioning smoothly
- Taking initiative with household tasks without requiring detailed direction
The family understands that caring for children always comes first. On days when the boys are home from school or sick, they fully expect childcare to take priority and recognize that household tasks may need to wait. This is a home where children are encouraged to play, explore, and have fun, and toys on the floor are simply part of family life.
The Ideal Candidate:
The family is looking for someone who is:
- Warm, dependable, and nurturing
- Active and enthusiastic about engaging with energetic young boys
- Flexible and adaptable to changing schedules
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to take ownership of household responsibilities
- Communicative and collaborative with parents
- Interested in building a long-term relationship with the family
Candidates with strong household management skills and the ability to independently identify and complete tasks that support the family will be compensated accordingly.
