Senior Project Manager – Commercial MEP Construction
Richmond, VA (Relocation Assistance Available)
Salary: $125,000 – $180,000

We are partnering with a well-established MEP construction contractor with a strong presence in the Mid-Atlantic region that is actively seeking a Senior Project Manager to join their Richmond team. This organization specializes in self-performing mechanical construction services and is known for delivering complex, large-scale projects across multiple building systems.

With approximately 700 employees and significant investment in fabrication and production capabilities, the company operates two 170,000 sq. ft. facilities and over 250,000 sq. ft. dedicated to modular fabrication and assembly. Their in-house capabilities span multiple disciplines, allowing projects to be executed efficiently from fabrication through installation.

The Role

The Senior Project Manager will oversee the planning, execution, and financial performance of complex MEP construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

This position requires strong technical knowledge of Mechanical, Plumbing, HVAC, Sheet Metal, Electrical, and Fire Protection systems, along with the leadership ability to manage field teams, coordinate with internal departments, and drive project outcomes.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on construction leader who understands how MEP subcontractors execute work in the field and can make critical, timely decisions to keep projects moving efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all phases of assigned MEP construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
Manage project budgets, schedules, and overall financial performance
Coordinate with internal teams including preconstruction, safety, purchasing, BIM/CAD, fabrication, and operations
Develop detailed construction schedules and execution plans
Review drawings and specifications to identify constructability issues, scope gaps, and design conflicts
Manage procurement of materials and equipment and evaluate vendor pricing
Coordinate fabrication schedules with field installation requirements
Monitor project metrics including productivity, material deliveries, and equipment utilization
Lead project meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams
Prepare revenue forecasts, schedules of values, cash flow projections, and financial reports
Identify scope changes and manage change order pricing and submission
Develop recovery plans for projects facing schedule, cost, or quality challenges
Mentor and support field leadership to ensure work is executed safely and efficiently
Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
or
10+ years of MEP construction experience
Proven experience managing multiple multi-million dollar MEP projects
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction sequencing, and jobsite operations
Experience working for MEP subcontractors (not general contractors)
Demonstrated leadership ability managing field teams and project staff
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to make sound decisions in fast-paced construction environments
Ability to pass background checks and drug screening
Willingness to work project schedules as requiredPreferred Qualifications
Experience with BIM coordination
Procore or similar project management software
Lean Six Sigma certification
Prior military experience

Base Salary: $140,000 – $180,000
