Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Service Tech Assistant supports Cam-Ful’s Service/Start-Up Coordinator and experienced HVAC technicians with equipment start-up, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and field service activities. This role combines field work with office documentation and is intended for a dependable technician who has foundational HVAC knowledge and wants to develop commercial service skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Assist with equipment inspections, pre-start checks, start-up procedures, warranty documentation, and operational verification.

· Support troubleshooting of electrical, airflow, controls, refrigeration, and mechanical issues under experienced technical leadership.

· Safely use multimeters, clamp meters, ohmmeters, temperature instruments, gauges, and other diagnostic tools within training and authorization.

· Assist with preventive maintenance, filters, coils, condensate systems, belts, electrical components, thermostat/control checks, and general equipment condition reviews.

· Record readings, equipment information, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up requirements accurately.

· Read wiring diagrams, manufacturer literature, equipment data, checklists, and service documentation.

· Maintain tools, organize parts, protect customer property, and keep work areas clean.

· Communicate findings clearly to the supervising technician or coordinator without overstating conclusions.

· Work in the office or field as workload requires.

Minimum Qualifications

· At least six months of paid, hands-on HVAC field experience in installation, maintenance, start-up, or service; classroom-only training does not satisfy the field-experience requirement.

· Working knowledge of the basic refrigeration cycle and common HVAC components.

· Experience using a multimeter, clamp meter, or ohmmeter safely.

· EPA Section 608 certification or ability to obtain it within the timeframe established by Cam-Ful; Universal certification is preferred.

· Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, reliable transportation, and ability to report to Pineville and assigned job sites.

· Ability to communicate professionally and complete accurate documentation.

· High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

· Commercial HVAC experience.

· EPA 608 Universal certification.

· OSHA 10, NCCER HVAC training, registered apprenticeship, or accredited HVAC technical-school completion.

· Experience with RTUs, split systems, heat pumps, package units, AHUs, VAV systems, controls, or start-up documentation.

Physical and Work Requirements

· Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier material using proper equipment and team-lifting practices.

· Work from ladders, lifts, rooftops, mechanical rooms, construction areas, and other elevated or restricted locations.

· Stand, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work with tools for extended periods.

· Work in indoor and outdoor environments with changing temperatures, noise, dust, and active construction conditions.

· Work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules when project requirements call for it.

· Uses a logical troubleshooting process instead of replacing parts by guesswork.

· Develops toward independently completing routine inspections and maintenance tasks.
