Financial Coordinator (Nonprofit)

Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly (40 hours/week)

Location: Cornerstone of Hope – Cleveland, Ohio

Work Schedule: 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday

Reports To: Operations Director

Salary: $52,000-$58,000

ABOUT CORNERSTONE OF HOPE

Cornerstone of Hope is a faith-based bereavement center rooted in Christian values, and we seek team members who share and support our Christian mission while serving grieving children, teens, and adults. We provide grief support, education, and postvention response to individuals, families, schools, and communities impacted by loss.

This position is available as part of a planned leadership transition. Our current Accounting Coordinator has faithfully served Cornerstone of Hope for more than ten years and will be retiring. We are seeking a successor who values long-term commitment, stewardship, and mission-driven service, and who is excited to build upon a strong financial foundation while supporting the organization's continued growth and impact.

Position Summary

The Financial Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the organization's financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, donor gift reconciliation, grant billing, and supervision of finance staff. This role ensures accurate financial management, compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and timely reporting to leadership, auditors, and regulatory agencies. The

ideal candidate is a Certified Bookkeeper who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while supporting the organization's mission.

What You'll Do

Financial Management & Accounting

· Manage the organization's accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes.

· Maintain the chart of accounts, class structure, and annual budget data to support accurate financial reporting and analysis.

· Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports, including balance sheets, income statements, budget-to-actual analyses, forecasts, and department/location-specific reporting.

· Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records through effective internal controls, supporting documentation, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.

· Coordinate annual audit activities, prepare required schedules and journal entries, and serve as the primary liaison for external auditors.

Compliance & Reporting

· Manage organizational compliance, including 1099 vendor administration, W-9 documentation, Sales and Use Tax filings, and annual charitable registration requirements.

· Support organizational governance by participating in Finance Committee, board, and staff meetings and implementing approved financial policies, procedures, and recommendations.

Donor Database

· Administer donor accounting and database management, including gift reconciliation, donor record maintenance, reporting, acknowledgments, and memorial/tribute fund tracking.

Grant Administration

· Prepare, monitor, and submit monthly grant reimbursement requests for state/county-funded programs. to ensure compliance with grant requirements and budget guidelines.

Event Financial Oversight

· Oversee financial operations for fundraising events, ensuring accurate cash management, documentation, and regulatory compliance.

What You’ll Bring

Required

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

· Five or more years of accounting or financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.

· Strong knowledge of financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and internal controls.

· Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office, and accounting software such as QuickBooks.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

· Excellent attention to detail, discretion, and commitment to accuracy.

· Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience In

· Certified Bookkeeper (CB)

· Nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and financial management.

· Donor management systems, preferably Little Green Light.

· Administering grants, including billing, reporting, and compliance.

· Familiarity with audit coordination, payroll processing, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.

· Accounting software conversions, system implementations, or process improvements.
