AESA Program | U.S. Citizenship Required

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior FPGA / ASIC Design Assurance Engineer to support the development and certification of advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) systems for aerospace and defense applications. This role is responsible for the design, verification, integration, and certification of complex airborne electronic hardware while ensuring compliance with DO-254 Design Assurance Level A (DAL-A) requirements.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with FPGA/ASIC development, verification methodologies, certification activities, and hardware integration. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, supporting aggressive program schedules while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Capture, analyze, decompose, and maintain system and hardware requirements while ensuring complete bidirectional traceability.
Develop RTL design code using VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog for FPGA, ASIC, and SoPC applications.
Develop hardware integration plans, test cases, and verification procedures.
Define and execute verification strategies utilizing simulation, hardware testing, inspection, and analytical techniques.
Perform FPGA/ASIC/SoPC verification using industry best practices, including constrained random verification, functional coverage, code coverage, and UVM methodologies.
Create and maintain DO-254 DAL-A certification artifacts for Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH).
Participate in hardware integration, validation, and system verification activities.
Conduct design reviews, peer reviews, and technical assessments throughout the development lifecycle.
Support FAA Stage of Involvement (SOI) audits and certification activities.
Collaborate closely with systems, software, hardware, quality, and program management teams to ensure successful program execution.
Recommend and implement improvements to FPGA/ASIC development tools, verification methodologies, and engineering processes.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
Effectively communicate technical progress, risks, and solutions with engineering leadership, program management, and customers.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
8+ years of experience developing FPGA, ASIC, or SoPC hardware for aerospace, defense, or other safety-critical applications.
Strong experience with DO-254 processes and certification activities.
Experience developing RTL in VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog.
Experience with requirements management, decomposition, and traceability.
Experience developing hardware verification plans, test procedures, and integration documentation.
Knowledge of FPGA/ASIC verification methodologies including:
Constrained Random Verification
Functional Coverage
Code Coverage
UVM
Simulation-based Verification
Experience generating certification documentation for DAL-A Airborne Electronic Hardware.
Strong understanding of hardware development lifecycles from requirements through certification.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within geographically distributed engineering teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting FAA SOI audits.
Experience with AESA radar or advanced avionics systems.
Experience with ASIC, FPGA, and System-on-Chip (SoPC) architectures.
Familiarity with modern FPGA development and verification toolchains.
Experience leading technical reviews and mentoring engineering teams.
Continuous improvement mindset with experience evaluating and implementing new engineering tools and methodologies.
