Full Job Description

A unit within the portfolio of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Chicano Student Programs (CSP) is an essential department that provides academic support services, mentoring/leadership development, co-and extra-curricular programming, K-14 outreach and non-academic counseling among other things, for all UC Riverside students with an emphasis on Chicano Latino scholars. In collaboration with the Director & Assistant Director, the program coordinator develops, plans, implements and evaluates programs, services, initiatives and activities for Chicano Student Programs (CSP). The Program Coordinator is responsible to plan, implement, market and evaluate cultural and education programs related to Chicano Latino students; coordinate outreach efforts targeted to K-12 and community college students; coordinate cross cultural programs with other campus departments; provide support and assistance to Chicano Latino student organizations; assist in recruitment, training and supervision of peer mentors with a focus on mentorship to Chicano/Latino students at large; and act as an advocate for student concerns. The incumbent independently analyzes campus wide needs to develop a programmatic response, serving as a subject matter expert pertaining to Chicano/Latino undergraduate and graduate student success. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the student intern selection process, supervision, training and day-to-day work flow management for the interns, mentor volunteers and delegates. The full salary range for the Program Coordinator, (005152) is $58,800 - $101,220 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $64,102 annually. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

The candidate must possess a critical understanding of the diverse experiences of Chicano and Latino student populations, with deep knowledge of the cultural, historical, and socio-political diversity across Central American, South American, Caribbean, and Mexican American communities. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups with a wide array of identity and life experiences, including gender, disability, class race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, culture, religion, etc. Demonstrated skills in establishing and sustaining effective working partnerships with a diverse group of staff, faculty, and administrators in non-profit, legal, and social service agencies and a volunteer base. Strong program, planning, organizational and time management skills sufficient to independently set priorities, coordinate and complete a number of competing assignments with established deadlines. Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues. Knowledge, sensitivity and understanding of the social, political, personal and cross-cultural needs, concerns and interests of Chicano/Latino students of intersecting identities in the campus community and thorough understanding of Chicano Student Programs mission, vision and values. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization. Knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion including an understanding of the historical and social context of diversity, equity and inclusion, and of the intersections of identities including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religious, ability, and class background. Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Ability to develop educational programs, including diversity training development and facilitation. Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Skill in creating and facilitating interactive presentations and workshops from inception to completion. Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of student issues impacting a campus population, including national trends, policies, and concerns affecting Chicano/Latino college students.
