Senior Project Manager – Data Center Construction - Travel or Relocation

Position Overview
A leading General Contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the full life cycle of large-scale commercial construction projects, with a strong emphasis on Data Center, Mission Critical, and MEP-intensive builds.
This role is responsible for overall project execution, including contract administration, budget management, schedule performance, procurement, subcontractor oversight, client communication, risk management, quality control, and project close-out.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, highly organized construction leader with a proven track record delivering complex projects in fast-paced, high-accountability environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full project life cycle from preconstruction support through final close-out and client turnover
- Manage overall project administration, including contracts, purchase orders, permits, change orders, insurance requirements, and risk mitigation documentation
- Lead procurement and buy-out processes to ensure subcontractor scopes, pricing, and schedules align with project requirements
- Review scopes of work and negotiate subcontracts to ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment with project documents
- Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project budgets, cost reports, and cost-to-complete forecasts
- Identify financial exposures early and implement corrective actions to protect project profitability
- Oversee the Schedule of Values, billing cycles, pay applications, receivables, and cash flow performance
- Manage the full change order process, including proposed, pending, approved, and disputed changes
- Track field directives, back charges, owner changes, and subcontractor change requests to ensure accurate documentation and cost recovery
- Collaborate with field leadership to develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and critical path activities
- Lead monthly schedule updates, delay narratives, recovery plans, and stakeholder reporting
- Coordinate closely with Superintendents, Project Engineers, MEP teams, subcontractors, consultants, and owners to drive successful project execution
- Lead project meetings, client updates, subcontractor coordination meetings, and internal cost reviews
- Serve as the primary point of contact for owner communication, issue resolution, project reporting, and overall client satisfaction
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, trade partners, consultants, inspectors, commissioning agents, and internal leadership
- Enforce project-specific quality control programs, including mock-ups, benchmark inspections, first-in-place reviews, nonconformance tracking, and punch list management
- Drive timely completion of submittals, RFIs, coordination drawings, BIM coordination, procurement logs, and close-out documentation
- Implement and maintain project risk management strategies, including timely notices, documentation, issue tracking, and contractual compliance
- Review subcontractor pay applications for accuracy, executed change order alignment, lien compliance, and deliverable completion
- Partner with accounting and operations teams to ensure timely payments, proper cost coding, and accurate financial reporting
- Plan close-out activities early, including as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, commissioning documentation, punch lists, training, and phased turnover
- Mentor Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and administrative staff on project controls, documentation, scheduling, cost tracking, and client communication
- Promote a collaborative, solutions-driven team culture focused on accountability, safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
10+ years of progressive commercial construction project management experience
Required: Data Center, Mission Critical, or MEP-intensive project experience
- Strong understanding of complex building systems, including electrical distribution, mechanical infrastructure, cooling systems, life-safety systems, generators, UPS, switchgear, and commissioning processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
- Proven experience managing large-scale commercial construction projects from start to finish
- Strong knowledge of contracts, construction law, permitting, change management, procurement, and industry best practices
- Ability to read, interpret, and coordinate construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, codes, and contract documents
- Demonstrated success managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, client relationships, change orders, and project documentation
- Strong financial acumen, including cost forecasting, cash flow management, budget tracking, and exposure mitigation
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, high-pressure construction environments
- Proficiency with construction management software, scheduling tools, document control platforms, and Microsoft Office applications
- Professional certifications such as PE, PMP, LEED, or industry affiliations such as AGC are a plus
Work Environment
This role includes both office-based and on-site responsibilities. Candidates must be comfortable working in active construction environments, walking job sites, accessing mechanical and electrical spaces, coordinating with field teams, and managing multiple project phases simultaneously.
Regular use of construction management software, scheduling tools, reporting systems, and standard communication platforms is required.
