We are a fast-growing financial services company specializing in Alternative Business Funding, providing flexible capital solutions to small and mid-sized businesses. We operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where leaders are expected to take ownership, challenge existing processes, and build scalable solutions that drive measurable results.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Head of Collections to our collections function.
This is not a traditional role focused solely on managing an established collections department. We are looking for a builder and operator who can assess our current collections operation, identify opportunities for improvement, redesign our processes, and build a high-performing collections team capable of delivering stronger results as the company grows.

The Head of Collections will have significant ownership over the collections function, including onboarding and developing the team, establishing training and performance standards, redesigning collections workflows and strategies, implementing KPIs and accountability measures, and improving overall portfolio performance and recoveries.

The ideal candidate has previously built or significantly transformed a collections operation and can demonstrate a track record of producing measurable improvements in collections performance.

Key Responsibilities
Build & Develop the Collections Team

Build and scale a high-performing collections team based on the needs and growth of the organization.
Onboard, train, coach, and develop Collections Associates.
Create structured onboarding and ongoing collections training programs, including negotiation strategies, account management, escalation procedures, and performance expectations.
Establish clear individual and team goals, KPIs, scorecards, and accountability standards.
Develop a performance-driven team culture focused on execution, continuous improvement, and measurable results.
Identify skill gaps and implement coaching and development plans to improve collector effectiveness.

Transform the Collections Process

Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing collections operation and identify opportunities to improve strategy, workflows, technology, reporting, and performance.
Redesign and implement the company’s end-to-end collections process to create a more effective, scalable, and data-driven operation.
Develop collections strategies based on account segmentation, risk, delinquency stage, customer behavior, and likelihood of recovery.
Establish and refine policies, procedures, escalation paths, and standardized workflows.
Evaluate and implement systems, technology, automation, and reporting tools that improve collections efficiency and visibility.
Partner with underwriting, legal, finance, and executive leadership to strengthen portfolio management and account resolution strategies.
Continuously evaluate collections practices and introduce new strategies based on performance data and portfolio trends.

Drive Measurable Results

Take direct ownership of collections performance and continuously identify opportunities to increase recoveries and reduce losses.
Establish, monitor, and report on key collections metrics and portfolio KPIs.
Use data and performance trends to identify underperforming areas and implement corrective strategies.
Improve collector productivity, contact effectiveness, resolution rates, recovery performance, and overall portfolio outcomes.
Develop forecasting and reporting that provides executive leadership with clear visibility into collections performance, risks, and opportunities.
Set measurable performance targets and hold the collections organization accountable for achieving them.
Personally handle or oversee complex, high-value, and escalated accounts when necessary.

Leadership & Compliance

Serve as the company’s primary leader and subject-matter expert for collections strategy and operations.
Provide executive leadership with recommendations regarding portfolio risk, collections strategy, staffing, and operational improvements.
Ensure collections practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and company policies.
Build processes and infrastructure that can scale alongside the company’s continued growth.

Qualifications

5+ years of collections experience, including at least 2+ years in a collections leadership role.
Experience within financial services, lending, commercial finance, or Alternative Business Funding strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience building, scaling, or significantly restructuring a collections team or department.
Proven ability to design and implement collections processes, workflows, policies, and performance management systems.
Documented track record of improving collections results, increasing recoveries, improving team productivity, and/or reducing portfolio losses.
Strong experience recruiting, training, coaching, and managing collections professionals.
Strong understanding of collections KPIs, portfolio analytics, reporting, and performance management.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership abilities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where processes may need to be built or improved from the ground up.
Hands-on leadership style with the willingness to personally address challenges when necessary.
