Job Summary
The Senior Director of Broadcast Media leads strategic external communications and multimedia production to tell the FIU story across local, national, and international broadcast and new media channels. While primarily responsible for supporting brand messages on TV and strategically placing experts, the Senior Director integrates these efforts into the university's broader digital, marketing, and editorial media strategies. Working closely with the Director of National Media, Senior Director of Media Relations, the Associate Vice President for Media and Executive Communications, and the Senior Vice President of the division, the Senior Director is a key part of the issue management and emergency communication team.

Leads FIU's broadcast media strategy and interactions with local, national and international outlets.

Executes an integrated national strategy to support the FIU brand in collaboration with the Director of National Media.

Serves as a strategic adviser in fostering relationships with newsroom leadership, with local radio and other radio networks, for the purpose of furthering, protecting the FIU brand and advancing the FIU story.

Directs the comprehensive new media strategy for FIU's presence in podcasts and non-traditional media, ensuring these efforts leverage digital/electronic channels to increase visibility and traffic across the brand.

Participates and works closely with the director of communication and the Office of the President on bringing thought leadership to television through interview and special appearances for the president.

Participates in staffing the president while preparing for interviews and in writing talking points for interviews.

Leads and supervises the assistant director for multimedia production, to place TV-ready FIU content in local, national and international outlets.

Executes messaging and managing broadcast media during an emergency.

Directs the voice-over work for FIU on-hold and other FIU communications.

Serves as a strategic adviser to FIU Police and aids in police communications plans.

Participates in teasing out story angles suitable for broadcast with the assistance of the research communications team and with faculty.

Leads one-on-one and group media training sessions for researchers and university leaders, as necessary.

Directs and leads staff in producing TV shoots on and off campus.

Leads the logistics and management of day of activities for FIU events requiring TV/Radio coverage.

Collaborates with unit communicators to pitch and coordinate broadcast interviews for FIU experts across the university.

Participates in creating and updating expert lists, media coverage reports, and in writing and editing media materials, as needed.

Develops and integrates metrics into broadcast and multimedia projects that clearly demonstrate the value, reach, and market effectiveness of media initiatives and campaigns.

Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of experience or a Master's degree and six (6) years of experience.
Desired Qualifications

Experience in working with local and national media outlets, supported by an established, robust network of newsroom and broadcast contacts.

Experience in working with faculty in a higher education institution, particularly in teasing out research story angles and providing on-camera media training for academic leaders.

Proven track record of executing strategic crisis communications and issue management on a local or national scale.

Experience advising C-suite executives or senior leadership on high-stakes communications, operational shifts, or crisis management strategies that directly protected or enhanced the organization's reputation.
