About Bryant Lock Installation
Bryant Lock Installation is an authorized subcontractor for dormakaba, one of the world's leading providers of access and security solutions. We install, commission, and service commercial and hospitality access control systems across multiple states — from single-door retrofits to networked, multi-floor deployments tied into dormakaba's Community access management software.
We're hiring an Access Control Engineer to be the senior technical presence on our installations. You'll lead our Lock and Computer Technicians on site, own the commissioning of new panels and readers, mentor the team on new dormakaba products as they roll out, and be the person who makes sure each job leaves clean — wired correctly, online, and verified working.
What You'll DoSystem Commissioning & Installation
- Commission dormakaba access control panels, including the RAC 5XT (one- or two-door networked panel) and the RAC 5 MFC multi-floor controller for elevator access
- Wire and verify low-voltage installations: panel power, transformer input, battery backup, form-C lock relays, request-to-exit, door status inputs, and reader connections (flush mount and surface mount, including Bluetooth-enabled readers)
- Verify current-draw budgets against panel power supply ratings (e.g., 2A on RAC 5XT) and size hardware accordingly
- Apply transient suppression diodes correctly across lock outputs to protect panels — and make sure the techs on your crew are doing the same
- Configure panels for standalone or networked operation, register MAC addresses, and bring panels online into dormakaba's Community access management software for live audit trails and remote programming
- Perform initial handheld programming, then transition the system to full network management
- Test door operation, REX, door-ajar / propped-open monitoring, and panel tamper notifications before sign-off
Lead the Crew On Site
- Be the senior technical voice on the job — direct Lock Technicians and Computer Technicians through scope, sequencing, and quality
- Read drawings, door schedules, and wiring diagrams; translate them into a working install plan for the crew
- Make field decisions on wiring routes, panel locations, lock current-draw matchups, and integration with the property's existing systems
- Communicate professionally with property owners, GCs, IT contacts, and dormakaba tech support when escalation is needed
- Document completed work, hand off as-builts, and confirm sign-off before the crew rolls off site
Mentor & Train the Team
- Bring our Lock and Computer Technicians up to speed on new dormakaba products as they're released (panels, readers, software updates)
- Walk less experienced techs through wiring conventions, troubleshooting workflows, and proper use of bypass switches and audit trails for diagnostics
- Be the go-to person when a tech in the field hits something they haven't seen before
What We're Looking ForRequired
- Strong electrical or low-voltage background — commercial electrician, fire alarm, security integrator, AV/structured cabling, or similar
- Comfortable reading and working from wiring diagrams, schematics, and door schedules
- Solid networking fundamentals — IP addressing, MAC addresses, switch / patch-panel basics, and connecting devices into a property network
- Methodical troubleshooting style — able to isolate whether an issue is wiring, power, panel, lock, or network without guesswork
- Strong, professional communication — you'll be the point of contact on site for owners, GCs, and IT staff
- Comfortable directing a small crew and mentoring less experienced techs without micromanaging
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and willing to travel multi-state with overnight stays
- Able to pass a background check and drug screening
- Set up to work as a 1099 independent contractor (own LLC / sole prop, or willing to set one up)
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Prior experience with dormakaba, BEST, Saflok, Kaba, Lenel, S2, Genetec, Brivo, or similar access control platforms
- Familiarity with dormakaba RAC 5XT, RAC 5 MFC, SR1, or Quantum RCU panels
- Hospitality or multi-housing access control experience (Ambiance, System 6000)
- Elevator access control / multi-floor controller experience
- Industry credentials: Electrician's license, NICET certification, low-voltage license, or manufacturer certifications
What We Offer
- $30/hour contractor rate, depending on experience and credentials
- Travel expenses covered — lodging and mileage handled by us
- Company vehicle available for crew leads when travelling with the team
- Access to dormakaba product training on the latest panels, readers, and software releases
- Steady contract work with a varied project pipeline — commercial, hospitality, and multi-housing
- Real responsibility — you're the senior on the job, not buried under layers of management
Who Thrives in This Role
This is the right job for someone who has spent years in the trades — electrical, low-voltage, fire alarm, security integration — and is ready to step into the lead role on commercial access control installations. You like getting your hands on the panel and verifying every connection yourself, but you also enjoy showing a younger tech why something is wired the way it is. You take pride in clean work, accurate documentation, and walking off a job knowing the system is going to run reliably for years.
