Full Job Description

Job Overview
The Friendship Program Coordinator pairs older adults (Forever Friends) with volunteer visitors for one-to-one visits across Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties. By fostering meaningful connections, the program helps reduce loneliness and build lasting friendships. Forever Friends are people aged 60 years or older who are seeking companionship through our signature Friendly Visiting Program.

The coordinator ensures meaningful pairings, ongoing engagement, and measurable program outcomes that demonstrate impact on reducing loneliness and increasing social connection.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is detail-oriented and has intermediate computer skills. This position requires an individual who enjoys working with volunteers and older adults and who understands the dynamics of aging and loneliness or is willing to learn.

Program Coordination

Conduct Forever Friend inquiries in collaboration with the Outreach Communications Coordinator
Welcome new Forever Friends into the program through in-home visits
Create compatible pairings between Forever Friends and Visiting Volunteers, achieving established match rates
Monitor success of friendship pairings through feedback and check-ins
Adjust or reassign pairings as needed to improve outcomes
Ensure all visits meet program and frequency standards
Oversee implementation of Forever Friend Quality of Life screenings and support plans
Resolve participant or volunteer issues in a timely and respectful manner
Coordinate Johnson Needs Fund support projects to enhance Forever Friend well-being
Coordinate special occasion visits in collaboration with the Senior Services Coordinator
Attend Forever Friend events to facilitate successful pairings
Support closure processes including funerals, memorials, and annual remembrance events
Pair volunteers with Forever Friends within 30 days of intake
Achieve annual volunteer retention rate goals as established by the Program Manager
Provide ongoing supervision, support and recognition to volunteers
Assign Volunteer Program Assistant (VPAs) interns to ensure 100% of Forever Friends receive regular visits
Recognize volunteers regularly and coordinate appreciation activities

Recordkeeping

Maintain complete and accurate records in CRM data systems in a timely manner
Manage confidential participant and volunteer information with discretion
Track, report, and analyze metrics including but not limited to visit frequency, pair rates, and volunteer engagement
Ensure all documentation and policies are current and compliant

Community Engagement

Contribute stories and photos to agency communications
Participate in outreach activities including speaking engagements and media interviews
Support development of new referral sources and community partnerships

Special Requirements

Maintain compliance with organizational policies and confidentiality standards
Valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan
Implement and analyze various evaluation techniques
Work on 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter)
Assist with major holiday preparation and clean-up
Participate in staff meetings, committee meetings, and organizational events

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years of experience working in case management or similar field
Strong interpersonal skills, organizational, and communication skills
Detail-oriented with demonstrated project management ability
Intermediate computer skills in MS365 and CRM data systems
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to work effectively and compassionately with older adults and volunteers

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Will require some flexibility to work evening and weekends as needed.
