Full Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Develop AV system designs that meet functional requirements, performance standards, and budget constraints.
Create detailed technical documentation including:
System schematics
Signal flow diagrams
Equipment lists
Infrastructure requirements
Rack elevations
Network layouts (as applicable)
Prepare design packages using tools such as D‑Tools, AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or equivalent platforms.
Collaborate with the sales team to qualify opportunities, define technical scope, and support proposal development.
Participate in pre‑sales meetings to provide technical expertise and ensure an accurate understanding of customer expectations.
Recommend appropriate equipment and technologies based on system needs, best practices, and manufacturer guidelines.
Coordinate with internal teams—including project management, installation, programming, and commissioning—to ensure designs are clear, complete, and build‑ready.
Review submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation for technical accuracy.
Maintain an up‑to‑date knowledge base of AV technologies, industry trends, and manufacturer products.
Assist with system design revisions or clarifications during the project build phase when requested by operations teams (without owning execution).
Contribute to standardization of design templates, engineering processes, and documentation practices.

Required Qualifications

Associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Audio/Visual Technology, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in AV system design, engineering, or related technical roles.
Strong knowledge of commercial AV technologies including:
Video conferencing systems
Distributed audio/video
Theatrical or architectural audio/visual systems
Control system architecture (Crestron, Extron, AMX, Q-SYS etc.)
DSP signal flow and system layout
Proficiency with design tools such as D‑Tools, AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam or similar.
Familiarity with networking concepts (IP addressing, switching, VLANs) as they relate to AV system integration.
Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites if design validation or surveys are required.
Ability to meet background check and job‑site access requirements.

Desired Skills and Certifications

AVIXA CTS, CTS‑D, or CTS‑I certification.
MN PLT license.
Manufacturer certifications such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, QSC, or similar.
Familiarity with low‑voltage standards, cabling infrastructure, and AV installation methodology.
Hands‑on installation or field experience (helpful but not required).
Experience in vertical markets such as corporate, education, hospitality, government, or house of worship.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Self‑motivated with a proactive, solutions‑driven mindset.

Work Environment
This role is performed in a standard [office/hybrid/warehouse/remote] environment with routine use of computers and standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements
