Full Job Description

Twin Cities (West Metro Preferred) | Fractional/Part-Time (15-20 hrs./week, flexibility to grow) | $60k-$70k PT (or fractional rate — TBD)

Family Office, Strategic Business Advisor

Our client is building a newly emerging family office, the next chapter for a 70+ year agricultural and financial enterprise, and is seeking a strategic, business-minded advisor to help shape and stand it up.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced financial/operating executive to take on a fractional advisory role with real flexibility, independent ownership of key workstreams, and meaningful influence over the long-term direction of a multi-generational enterprise. The role draws on a blend of Chief of Staff, strategic advisor, and financial oversight capabilities, but is scoped intentionally so it can be done well in a part-time capacity, not as a full-time job compressed into part-time hours.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO & Chair, this role supports the vision, values, and mission of the enterprise. Working closely with two Boards and two Managing Directors, the advisor contributes to long-term growth strategy across several operating platforms.

The initial focus is building foundational infrastructure and strategic direction for the family office; organizational structure, governance, and investment strategy, with financial oversight responsibilities scaled to a part-time cadence (heavier lift in Phase 1, steady-state advisory going forward). Day-to-day bookkeeping, transactional accounting, and treasury execution are handled by internal/outsourced finance support, not this role.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1 — Strategic Foundation (first 6-12 months)

Establish new corporate organizational structure, including formation of LLCs, NewCos, and trusts.
Partner with LLC Managing Directors and the Advisory Board on governance and key decisions.
Define long-term strategy and operating model for the family office.
Evaluate and help select outside advisors (tax, legal, banking, investment).

Ongoing — Strategic Advisory & Oversight

Provide oversight of portfolio strategy, diversification, and investment partner relationships.
Support M&A transaction activity and capital allocation decisions.
Guide tax strategy and coordinate with outside tax/legal counsel.
Support legacy planning and multi-generational wealth transfer.
Oversee financial reporting quality and compliance (not hands-on bookkeeping).
Coordinate across a multi-entity ecosystem, including:
- The core operating holding company
- An agricultural operating business
- A banking and insurance agency platform
- Affiliated capital holdings and real estate entities
- Family entities, trusts, and philanthropic vehicles (including DAFs)
Handle trust reporting and interactions with trustees and beneficiaries.
Support data security and vendor relationship coordination.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA or equivalent HNW tax/finance credential a plus, not required.
10+ years of experience in an operating company or family office environment, former CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller at a privately held or family-owned business strongly preferred.
Demonstrated success in roles with decision-making authority and accountability for financial outcomes.
Experience across multiple disciplines (finance, operations, investments, governance).
Familiarity with tax planning and wealth preservation strategies for high-net-worth individuals/families.

Core Capabilities

Ability to operate across investments, real estate, operating businesses, and financial strategy.
Comfortable working independently and setting priorities in a lean, evolving organization.
Strong financial acumen (P&L, budgeting, modeling, decision-support analysis).
Experience with M&A, capital strategy, and portfolio management.
Comfort working across legal, tax, HR, and banking environments.

Well-suited to an independent consultant or fractional executive already serving multiple clients, or a semi-retired former operating executive seeking a meaningful ongoing engagement.
Initially remote, with possible officing in the Wayzata area.
Client is open to a long-term, multi-year relationship as the family office matures.
