Full Job Description

Job Title: Office Assistant
Location: Jefferson City, MO (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-time, Salaried
Organization: Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA)

About Us:
MRTA is a grassroots, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization representing more than 30,000 retired education professionals across Missouri. We advocate for the well-being and benefits of retired educators and support ongoing educational initiatives.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Office Assistant to support the financial and administrative operations. This role is ideal for someone with strong bookkeeping experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a nonprofit setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting and Bookkeeping

Manage daily financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, deposits, and credit card processing
Work with the Executive Director and CPA on financial reports, tax filings, and audits
Oversee MRTA and MRTF bank accounts, ACH transactions, and membership payments
Track and report on event budgets and fundraising efforts

Office & Facilities Management

Maintain office supply inventory and vendor coordination
Prepare meeting spaces (Boardroom/Classroom Center) for internal and external meetings
Coordinate catering, meeting logistics, and cleanup

Administrative Support

Maintain accurate member and officer records
Provide clerical support to staff and assist with mailings and communications
Coordinate hotel and travel logistics for meetings
Assist with award program data, orders, and materials

Event Support

Help plan and execute statewide events, including registration and logistics
Support fundraising efforts for the annual Golf Tournament and Silent Auction
Represent MRTA at events (may include wearing the Blitz the Watchdog mascot costume)

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree preferred (equivalent experience may be considered)
Experience in financial and office management is required
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe products
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Experience in human resources, legislative processes, or event planning is a plus
Must be able to travel within Missouri on occasion

Compensation:
This is a full-time salaried position. The role is non-exempt from federal overtime statutes.

Pay: $36,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
