Full Job Description

1. General Description

The Shelter Monitor utilizes Housing First and Trauma Informed Care best practices while implementing agency policies and procedures to provide agency clients with a clean, safe and nurturing environment.

2. Responsibilities

Greet clients and conduct security checks of clients’ personal items as they enter the agency
Greet and provide assistance to visitors and donors
Ensure the safety of all on site individuals by following agency emergency policies and procedures
Systematically communicate concerns and status updates with shift supervisor
Manage conflicts and crisis effectively according to agency policies
Support and assist in preparing clients, meeting space and child care for client workshops and seminars
Attend scheduled team meetings and all-staff meetings
Mandatory reporter for child abuse and neglect

Shelter Monitor Duties:

Monitor the first floor and Lobby area
Conduct routine observation “sweeps” of residential areas
Clean computer room
Answer agency phone and keep front desk clean and organized
Distribute client chore assignments and chore supplies; Insure chores are completed
Serve dinner and conduct dinner count record
Store meal leftovers according to agency and Health Dept. policies
Launder agency towels, bedding and linens
Conduct bed check
Restock cafeteria and bathroom supplies
Prepare and serve breakfast
Complete day sheet, update accordingly
Review and prepare daily log notes

Shelter Monitor alternate to conduct observation rounds of the residential floors every 30 minutes. Observation rounds include bed check, insuring client residential areas are clean and safe, stripping the beds and cleaning the residential areas of clients that have exited the shelter program. At each shift change, one member of each consecutive shift will conduct a facility walk through and team update.

3. Qualifications, Skills, & Knowledge

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associates Degree preferred
2 years of customer service experience preferred
Experienced and competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail and basic data entry

Skills & Competencies

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Flexibility, the ability to listen and display compassion and patience
Leadership skills to include; decisiveness and the ability to work successfully under pressure
Flexibility to work evenings, overnight and weekend hours
Ability to conduct physically demanding tasks

4. Occupational Health and Safety

Employees are responsible and accountable for:

Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.
Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace
Correct utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment
Be up to date on vaccinations, including Hepatitis A and B and the annual influenza vaccine
