Salary Wage: $28.00 - $35.00 (Depending on Experience and Qualifications)

Job Description:
Quality Service Inc. is in the Central California Valley and has been in business for over 25 years. Our primary focuses are in the water and wastewater industries. We are seeking an individual for the position of Operator Technician I. This individual must possess a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a shift, lead or Chief plant operator of a water and wastewater systems. A strong background in various operational scenarios developing a strong skill set and range of knowledge to handle all types of situations. The ideal candidate should possess at minimum a grade 1 in at least two of the following wastewater treatment, water treatment, water distribution or cross-connection specialist. It would also be beneficial for this candidate to also have some base knowledge or understanding of electrical (all applications AC, DC, 3 phase, 1 phase, controls, switches, PLC’s, HMI, etc.), mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatic, valves, and piping. This is a field position working in all weather conditions and different environments, working independently and with other team members, clients, regulators and contractors. Professional presentation at all times is required. Knowledge of safety procedures and implementation of safety programs is required. It is essential to clearly and precisely communicate in all forms (verbal, written, e-mails, notes, etc.), maintain accurate records and work logs.
Desirable Licenses or Certificates:
- Valid California class C driver’s license that is approved by our insurance provider
- Wastewater Treatment Certification grade 1
- Water Treatment Certification grade 1
- Water Distribution Certification grade 1
- Backflow and or Cross-Connection Specialist
- Safety Related Courses
Required Education and Experience Guidelines-
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years’ experience as an operator at an equivalent grade facility.
- College degree or technical courses completed in maintenance or related field (desirable)
Desirable Range of Knowledge
- Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator –
- Operating at a facility as a shift, lead or Chief operator of your certification level activated sludge or equivalent experience highly desirable
- Water Treatment Plant Operator –
- Operating at a facility as a shift, lead or Chief operator of your certification level. Surface water treatment experience desirable
- Water Distribution Operator –
- Operating at a facility as a shift, lead or Chief operator of your certification level. Experience with multiple pressure zones, booster pumps, repairs, maintenance, meters, sampling and more
- Sewer Collection System –
- Operating gravity systems, pressure systems, lift stations, understanding of collection system maintenance
- Cross-Connection and Backflow –
- Certification and/ or knowledge of cross-connections and backflow devices
- Analytical sampling –
- Having an understanding, knowledge and experience on how to collect, preserve and transport analytical samples along with filling out chains of custody.
- Mechanical Knowledge -
- ability to understand a working knowledge of equipment such as pumps, engines, turbines, electric motors, bearings, couplers, belts, chains, gear boxes, chemical injection systems, analyzers, samplers and more
- Electrical Knowledge –
- AC and DC voltage, high voltage, low voltage, motor control centers, sensors, switches, capacitors, motors, VFD’s, PLC’s, SCADA and more
- SCADA/ PLCs -
- Understanding and basic knowledge on how to use and monitor SCADA and PLC’s, HMI interfaces and controls
- Hydraulic Knowledge –
- ability to understand and working knowledge of hydraulic circuits, filters, fluids, fittings, seals, hoses, tubing, pumps, pulleys, chains, belts, valves, and more
- Pneumatic Knowledge –
- ability to understand and working knowledge of air compressors, blowers, cylinders, valves, filters, regulators and actuators, gauges, roto-meters and more
- Well System Knowledge –
- Pumps submersible and turbine, wells, tanks, controls, valves, sizing, tanks
- Pump System Knowledge -
- Working and understanding of centrifugal, diaphragm, piston, gear, peristaltic, lobe pumps, shafts, seals, bearing and more
- Plans, P&ID, Drawings and Schematics
- The ability to review, interpret and understand
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
Job Duties (Include but Are Not Limited to the Following):
· Review and understand permit conditions, WDR (waste discharge requirements), operation plans, violations and other forms of system operational information.
· Review work orders, upcoming jobs & projects and schedule to prepare for proficiency and efficiency in all projects and jobs in advance
· Work with other staff members, subs, regulators, clients and others in a professional manner, communicate and represent company in a professional manner
· Maintain accurate and detailed records
· Ability to perform desired range of knowledge noted above in troubleshooting, repairing equipment
· Ability to work around heavy equipment in a safe manner
· Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted
· Ability to drive for multiple hours or long distances in a workday
· Communicate problems or concerns with supervisor, management or administrative staff
· Ability to provide and maintain a safe work practice for all staff members
· Manage deadlines; update and chase delegated tasks to ensure progress to deadlines and achieve compliance
· Data entry (various)
· Respond to after-hour emergencies
