GENERAL DESCRIPTION: As part of our dedicated Programming team, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and enjoyment of our community spaces. Under the guidance of our Programs Manager, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks. From conducting daily operations to overseeing rentals, you’ll have a direct impact on the well-being of our residents. This position will be located at the Recreation Barn and the Learning Center, with cross-training provided so that the person in this role has versatility to provide coverage at either location. Working some weekend and holiday events off-site is also expected.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
- Providing excellent customer service to all citizens and staff.
- As a friendly face of our organization, you’ll engage with participants of all ages, ensuring their safety and enjoyment during programs.
- You’ll be a valuable point of contact for any issues that arise during events, programs, and rentals providing prompt assistance and problem-solving to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all involved.
- Your dedication to excellence will be evident as you set up for events, rentals, facilities maintenance, and programs.
- Conducts assignments as required.
- Sets up activity equipment such as tables, chairs, electronics, etc.
- Cleans recreation equipment and facilities, including restrooms during each shift.
- Occasionally assist instructors during recreational programs; on-site during rentals and assisting with questions, and rental check in/out as well assisting with issues as they arise.
- Performs administrative tasks such as filling out paperwork, answering telephones, registration, handling payments for registration and rentals.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Previous experience working programs within Parks & Recreation preferred.
- Ability to work effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds, strong creativity and socialization skills. Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills will allow you to engage with a diverse community and deliver information effectively.
- Ability to maintain composure and remain calm during emergencies or high stress situations.
- Ability to effectively utilize technology, including computers, software programs, registration software, and other digital tools; provide basic troubleshooting support, assist patrons with technology-related questions.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Preferred to have knowledge of the objectives and ideals of public recreation, including an understanding of activities that make up parks and rec programs and events.
- Building effective teamwork and establishing positive relationships with colleagues, external agencies, and the public are essential qualities we are looking for.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or a willingness to learn these tools will streamline your administrative tasks.
- The ability to analyze information and make recommendations will ensure clarity and efficiency in your work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Work requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, full use of fingers, grasping, and repetitive motions.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of work, and observing general surrounds and activities.
- Employee is subject to noise and must be able to work in environmental conditions of extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards and atmospheric conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School degree
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree with a concentration in Parks and Recreation is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with children and adults in a recreational setting is preferred.
- Proficiency with computers and technology.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license in the state of North Carolina and/or South Carolina.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications within three months of employment or as requested.
- The position will require after hours and weekend support responsibilities, as well as working on some holidays for Town events.
- The hours available for this position vary. There are some daytime opportunities available, however it is mostly evening and weekend hours needed.
- Max number of hours a week is 19 hours.
