Job Description

SUMMARY:

Seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Lead to oversee daily laboratory operations with a strong focus on Blood Bank services. This leadership role requires a highly skilled laboratory professional with extensive blood bank expertise, quality assurance knowledge, and the ability to support laboratory staff while ensuring accurate and timely patient testing. This is a temporary-to-hire opportunity for candidates interested in long-term employment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead and support daily operations of the clinical laboratory, with emphasis on Blood Bank services.

· Perform complex laboratory testing in accordance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and quality assurance guidelines.

· Conduct and interpret blood bank testing, including:

o ABO/Rh typing, Antibody Screen and Identification

o AHG Crossmatch

o Antigen Typing

o Direct and Indirect Coombs Testing

o Electronic and Immediate Spin Crossmatch

o Rhogam Screening

o Cord Blood Evaluation

o Blood Irradiation

o Cold Agglutinin Testing

o Transfusion Reaction Workups

o Thawing and handling of blood products

· Ensure accurate specimen processing, labeling, storage, and reporting of laboratory results.

· Maintain compliance with laboratory safety protocols, hazardous material handling, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.

· Monitor quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory documentation.

· Assist with staff supervision, workflow coordination, troubleshooting, and training as needed.

· Utilize the EPIC electronic medical record system for documentation and reporting.

· Participate in rotating weekends and holiday coverage as required.

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.

· Current ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification.

· ASCP Blood Bank (BB) certification.

· Minimum of 5 years of Clinical Laboratory Scientist experience.

· Minimum of 3 years of Blood Bank experience in a hospital clinical laboratory.

· Strong knowledge of blood banking procedures, transfusion medicine, and laboratory quality systems.

· Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Any Specific Mandate skill required

· Previous Lead or Laboratory Management experience.

· Experience in teaching hospitals, community hospitals, LTAC facilities, or Trauma Level I/II centers.

· Experience with donor collection procedures, plasmapheresis, plateletpheresis, specimen accessioning, and venipuncture.
