Job Title: Controller

Department: Finance/Operations

Reports To: COO

Direct Reports: Accounting Team

Job Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Overview

Go Fast Campers (GFC) is built on quality, precision, and operational excellence. The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for driving the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all day-to-day accounting functions and financial reporting. You will oversee the company’s financial operations, strengthen internal controls, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and partner closely with leadership to support data-driven decision making. This role reports to the COO and will play a central part in shaping the financial backbone of our growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance: Lead and own all accounting operations including general ledger, month-end close, financial statement preparation, and account reconciliations. Manage Sales Tax collection and remittance process in accordance with nexus requirements. Ensure compliance with GAAP and prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership review.
Day-to-Day Accounting: Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax filings, and cash management. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business planning. Monitor cash flow, capital needs, and financial performance.
Payroll & Benefits Administration: Own end-to-end payroll processing (40-50 employees using Gusto), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with federal and state regulations. Administer employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and any supplemental benefits, serving as the primary internal point of contact for benefits questions and enrollment changes.
HR Support & Compliance: Serve as a secondary point of contact for employee HR concerns, questions, or complaints, escalating appropriately to executive leadership or external HR/legal resources when needed. Support compliance with employment regulations, documentation requirements, and internal policies while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Insurance Management: Manage company insurance programs including workers’ compensation, general liability, property, and vehicle insurance. Coordinate renewals, audits, and claims in partnership with external brokers and leadership.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement: Develop, document, and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy and efficiency. Support system enhancements and ERP/accounting software improvements.
Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with Production, Supply Chain, CX, and Operations teams to ensure financial alignment with operational priorities. Provide financial insights and KPI analysis to inform strategic decision making. Mentor and develop accounting team members; foster a culture of accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Audit & External Partners: Coordinate and manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial service providers. Support audit processes and ensure completeness of financial records.

Data-Driven Feedback: Use data and feedback to refine processes, elevate team performance, and ensure that goals are consistently met.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or mid-sized operations.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems, financial software, and advanced Excel skills.
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical ability.
Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional teams.
Ability to balance tactical execution with strategic thinking.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing desk work.
Ability to occasionally lift up to ~25 lbs (documents, binders, equipment).
Occasional movement throughout the office and production facility.
Comfortable interacting with production, operations and warehouse teams.
