Full Job Description

This position is located at Deer Lodge Medical Center in Deer Lodge, Montana. As a Gold Certified member of the Planetree Network, DLMC achieves excellence in person-centered care by prioritizing the active participation of patients and their families throughout the healthcare process with an emphasis on partnership, compassion, transparency, inclusion, and quality.

We are hiring ONE (1) fulltime NIGHT shift RN working 12-hour shifts 6PM to 6AM in the Emergency Department. Two (2) years of nursing experience required for this positions. Full benefit package, retention bonus and competitive wage available. Excellent work environment! DLMC is an eligible facility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. (PSLF)

POSITION: Registered Nurse Emergency Department

DEPARTMENT: Nursing

RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Clinical Officer (CCO), Director of Nursing (DON)

POSITION SUMMARY: In addition to the role of a registered nurse as described in the RN position description the Emergency Department RN is responsible for the triage, care and treatment of patients presenting for emergency services at DLMC.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Required Education/Experience:

· Graduate of accredited school of nursing as Associate Degree Nurse (ADN)

REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

Two (2) year experience working as an RN
Current Montana State RN license
Current BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers certification
ACLS, PALS/ENPC are required within 6 months and TNCC is required within 1 year of hire.
Specialty certification in area of practice may be required for specific departments
Prior experience in a related health care setting, or a specific area of nursing, may be required for specific departments, i.e., surgery, emergency department, clinic

Preferred Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

· Nursing experience in rural healthcare or critical access hospitals

While practicing in the Emergency department the RN is responsible for:

1. Triage of all patients presenting for emergency services

2. Providing communication/medical control for the EMS providers when necessary. The provider may be contacted to assist with medical control as necessary.

3. Nursing team leader for trauma, codes and rapid response.

4. Activating the trauma team if necessary.

5. Bedside registration of ED and surgical patients when registration staff is unavailable.

6. Implementation of medical staff protocols for trauma, chest pain and stroke.

7. Provide back-up for nursing outpatient procedures as available.

8. Provide moderate procedure sedation utilizing the sedation narrator in Epic.

9. Arrange and prepare patient for transfer of patient to DLMC inpatient or out of the facility.

10. Daily crash cart checks for the ED and Med/Surg.

11. Daily check and restock of ED rooms of nursing supplies.

12. Cleaning and restocking of ED rooms after each use.

13. Ensure completion of all ED records and documentation of ED care using Epic including scanning of elements not documented in Epic.

14. ED charge entry for facility charges.

15. Data collection for clinical improvement projects.

As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by Montana State, and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice. The RN adheres to Deer Lodge Medical Center’s policies, procedures, and guidelines for patient care. The RN is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. The RN may be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others, as defined by the Montana State Nursing Board. The RN assists in meeting Deer Lodge Medical Center’s strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e., implementing the Planetree Model of Care, Continuous Quality Improvement projects, etc. Full benefit package, competitive pay and retention bonus available. Utilizes universal precautions with all patient assignments, and participates in supporting performance improvement initiatives and quality measures activities established at DLMC.

9. Works with integrity, upholding DLMC mission and values, while maintaining confidentiality in all situations. Demonstrates and exhibits behavior congruent with the philosophy and mission of DLMC. Refuses to participate in unethical procedures or activities, and notifies appropriate authority of observed incompetence or unethical behavior. Accepts assignments away from usual assigned area with a positive and cooperative attitude. Participates in the orientation of new personnel as assigned.

10. Participates in all mandatory meetings, in-services and job training, including attending at least 75% (nine out of twelve) of the mandatory monthly staff meetings.

11. Adheres to requirements, policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and/or other Hospital/Clinic practices, in order to perform patient care duties which ensure high-quality patient care in accordance with licensure, DLMC policy, and scope of practice.

12. Performs other duties as required or directed by supervisor.
