Floating Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Morris County, NJ

Pay: $21.50 per hour (or update as appropriate)
Status: Full-Time

Position Overview

Reporting to the appropriate Residential or Day Services Supervisor, the Floating Direct Support Professional (DSP) is a full-time position that provides staffing support across ArcMorris Residential, Day Habilitation, Recreation Services, homes, service locations, and shifts based on operational needs. Responsibilities include providing person-centered care, assisting with activities of daily living, supporting clinical and behavioral needs, promoting community inclusion, and helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) achieve greater independence.

Floating DSPs receive specialized training in medical supports, behavioral supports, medication administration, and person-centered practices, ensuring they are qualified to provide services across ArcMorris residential homes, day programs, and recreation services while maintaining consistency in the quality of care provided.

Floating DSPs work a consistent 40-hour full-time schedule with established workdays; however, their assigned work location may change daily to provide coverage for staffing shortages, employee call-outs, emergencies, or other operational needs. Employees are required to contact the designated on-call manager at least one hour before each scheduled shift to confirm their assignment for the day. This role requires flexibility, dependability, adaptability, and the ability to deliver high-quality, person-centered support in a variety of settings while ensuring continuity of care for the individuals served.

Floating Direct Support Professional (DSP) Key Responsibilities

Provide direct care and individualized support to individuals receiving services in Residential, Day Habilitation, and Recreation programs.
Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, mobility, meal preparation, and other personal care needs.
Promote independence, dignity, choice, and person-centered practices in all aspects of care.
Support individuals in developing adaptive living skills, communication skills, social skills, and pre-vocational or vocational skills based on their individualized goals.
Implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs), behavioral support plans, and other individualized service plans.
Teach and reinforce daily living skills including meal planning, budgeting, shopping, housekeeping, laundry, money management, and community safety.
Encourage participation in educational, recreational, vocational, and community-based activities.
Administer medications and complete required medication documentation in accordance with physician orders, agency policies, and applicable regulations.
Monitor individuals' health and promptly report changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral status.
Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and behavioral situations using approved interventions.
Transport individuals safely to appointments, community activities, employment sites, and recreational opportunities using agency vehicles.
Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and assist with emergency evacuations when necessary.
Maintain a safe, clean, healthy, and supportive environment.
Complete daily documentation, progress notes, medication records, incident reports, and other required records accurately and within required timeframes.
Utilize Therap and other electronic documentation systems to maintain accurate records.
Develop positive working relationships with individuals served, families, guardians, and interdisciplinary team members.
Collaborate with supervisors, nurses, therapists, case managers, recreation staff, and other professionals to ensure quality services.
Attend required staff meetings, supervision sessions, and mandatory trainings.
Report to assigned work locations as directed and provide coverage across ArcMorris Residential, Day Habilitation, and Recreation programs based on operational needs.
Work assigned schedules, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, overnights, and overtime when required.
Comply with all ArcMorris policies, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) regulations, licensing requirements, and applicable federal and state laws.
Cooperate with licensing agencies and regulatory representatives during inspections or investigations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Floating Direct Support Professional (DSP) Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid New Jersey driver's license with no more than five (5) points.
Must be eligible to drive agency vehicles, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles and 15-passenger vans.
Ability to obtain and maintain all required ArcMorris, DDD, and regulatory certifications and trainings, including medication administration and other required certifications.
Defensive Driving certification and other job-related training may be required.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing work locations, schedules, and program assignments.
Ability to safely assist individuals with lifting, transfers, mobility, and other physical support needs.
Ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies and behavioral situations.
Ability to maintain accurate documentation using electronic health record systems.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and treating all individuals with dignity and respect.
Ability to follow all ArcMorris policies, procedures, DDD regulations, and licensing requirements.
