Full Job Description

Asphalt & Concrete Sales / Estimator – Public Works & Private

We are a growing Southern California asphalt paving and concrete contractor seeking an experienced Sales / Estimator to generate new business, develop strong customer relationships, and prepare competitive estimates for Public Works and private projects.

This is a sales-focused position. We are looking for someone who can actively find opportunities, bring in new customers, manage bids independently, follow up, and turn estimates into awarded projects.

Key Responsibilities

Generate new business through cold calling, networking, referrals, bid platforms, and existing industry relationships.
Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, municipalities, public agencies, property managers, developers, and commercial clients.
Identify and pursue Public Works and private-sector opportunities.
Review plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents.
Perform digital takeoffs, site walks, field measurements, and cost analysis.
Prepare estimates for asphalt paving, concrete, grading, site work, seal coating, striping, ADA improvements, and related scopes.
Calculate labor, materials, equipment, trucking, subcontractor, and prevailing wage costs.
Independently take a bid from plans or provided quantities through pricing and final proposal.
Prepare and submit competitive Public Works and private bids.
Follow up on bids, negotiate pricing, maintain customer relationships, and close projects.
Coordinate awarded projects with operations and project management.
Manage multiple active estimates, opportunities, and deadlines simultaneously.

Requirements

2+ years of estimating experience in asphalt paving, concrete, grading, site work, or closely related self-perform construction.
Proven ability to generate new leads, develop customers, and bring in sales.
Ability to independently take a project from plans/quantities to a complete finished proposal.
Strong experience with California Public Works projects and bidding requirements.
Very familiar with DIR requirements, prevailing wage, and Public Works compliance.
Familiarity with the Southern California paving and construction market.
Solid track record of building and maintaining long-term customer relationships.
Strong understanding of asphalt paving and concrete construction methods, production, and costs.
Ability to read plans, specifications, bid documents, and technical drawings.
Comfortable with digital takeoff and estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Bid Master, or similar, as well as Microsoft Excel and Office.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active bids and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and follow-up skills.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to site walks, pre-bid meetings, and customer meetings throughout Southern California.

Preferred

Existing relationships with general contractors, municipalities, public agencies, property managers, developers, and commercial clients are strongly preferred.
