Lead Daily Field Operations
The Smet Companies is looking for an experienced construction leader to take ownership of daily field operations across multiple active projects.
This is not a superintendent position assigned to one jobsite. This person will oversee several crews, projects, subcontractors, and field priorities at the same time.
You will work directly with ownership and have the authority to manage normal daily field decisions, keep projects moving, hold crews accountable, and solve problems before they affect the customer, schedule, quality, or budget.
We need someone who understands construction, respects the trades, communicates directly, and knows how to lead people without needing ownership to manage every daily detail.

What You Will Be Responsible For:
Daily Field Operations
- Manage multiple residential and commercial projects at the same time
- Coordinate daily field operations across all active jobsites
- Lead morning production meetings
- Assign crews, vehicles, equipment, materials, and daily priorities
- Make sure crews have the correct scope, plans, materials, tools, and information before arriving onsite
- Monitor production throughout the day and adjust resources when priorities change
- Visit jobsites regularly to review progress, quality, safety, cleanliness, and productivity
- Maintain project schedules and address delays early
- Coordinate subcontractors, deliveries, inspections, and field logistics
- Solve jobsite problems quickly and professionally
- Help coordinate emergency storm-response operations when needed
Crews and Subcontractors
- Lead and support crew leaders, field employees, and subcontractors
- Set clear expectations for attendance, workmanship, productivity, safety, and conduct
- Train and develop field employees
- Hold crews accountable to company standards
- Address performance or workmanship issues promptly and professionally
- Help build a dependable, professional, and accountable field team
- Participate in field hiring and employee evaluations
Quality and Safety
- Inspect workmanship throughout each project
- Make sure work follows approved scopes, plans, applicable codes, and manufacturer requirements
- Identify problems before they become rework, callbacks, delays, or customer complaints
- Stop work that is unsafe, outside the approved scope, or below company standards
- Complete punch lists and final field walkthroughs
- Make sure jobsites remain clean, organized, and professional
- Ensure projects are properly completed and ready for closeout
Customers and Communication
- Communicate directly with homeowners and commercial clients regarding daily project progress
- Explain upcoming work, schedules, access needs, and jobsite conditions
- Address normal customer concerns quickly and professionally
- Escalate pricing, contract changes, credits, major schedule changes, and serious customer disputes to ownership
- Maintain a strong customer experience from project start through completion
Materials, Vehicles, and Equipment
- Plan material and equipment needs before they delay production
- Coordinate material ordering and deliveries within approved project budgets
- Verify important deliveries for accuracy and completeness
- Make sure vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment are organized and job-ready
- Hold crews accountable for company tools, equipment, and materials
- Identify maintenance and repair needs before they affect production
- Help maintain an organized shop and yard
Field Documentation
Make sure crews complete accurate and timely:
- Daily CompanyCam photos
- Contractor Foreman daily reports and project updates
- Employee time records
- Material and delivery records
- Change-order and out-of-scope-work documentation
- Safety and incident documentation
- Vehicle and equipment issue reports
- Punch-list and closeout documentation
The Field Operations Manager is responsible for reviewing field records, correcting missing information, and making sure company documentation standards are followed.
Required Qualifications
- At least seven years of construction experience
- At least three years leading construction crews, subcontractors, or field operations
- Experience managing multiple active projects or crews at the same time
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and workmanship standards
- Ability to read plans, measurements, scopes of work, and specifications
- Strong leadership and direct, professional communication skills
- Ability to hold employees and subcontractors accountable
- Strong organizational and real-time problem-solving abilities
- Experience communicating with homeowners or commercial clients
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company insurance requirements
- Ability to travel between jobsites throughout the workday
- Ability to walk active jobsites, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfort using a smartphone and maintaining accurate digital records
Preferred Experience
Experience in several of the following areas is preferred:
- General contracting and remodeling
- Insurance restoration
- Decks, porches, and custom carpentry
- Hardscapes and outdoor living
- Masonry
- Excavation and drainage
- Landscape construction
- Commercial construction and property improvements
You do not need to personally perform every trade, but you must understand proper sequencing, recognize quality workmanship, and identify problems before they become larger issues.
Experience with Contractor Foreman, CompanyCam, Buildertrend, JobTread, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or comparable construction-management software is a plus.
OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR certifications are preferred.

- Identify quality, safety, and scheduling problems earlier
- Give ownership clear updates on every active project
- Build strong working relationships with crews, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and office leadership

Schedule
This is a full-time, field-based position with early morning starts.
The normal schedule is primarily Monday through Friday. Occasional evening, weekend, or emergency availability may be required depending on active projects, weather events, or customer needs.
