Compliance & Audit Specialist — Seafood Processing

About Us

Fat Cat Fish is a fish processing plant committed to delivering high-quality, safely processed seafood while upholding the highest standards of regulatory and industry compliance. We're looking for a detail-oriented Compliance & Audit Specialist to help us maintain and strengthen our certifications and regulatory standing across multiple governing bodies.

About the Role

We need someone who lives and breathes compliance — and who understands the unique demands of the seafood industry from the inside. This isn't a role for someone learning the fish business on the job. Prior experience working within a fish or seafood processing facility is required. You should be comfortable on a plant floor, understand the pace and conditions of processing operations, and know how audit and compliance work actually happens in this industry — not just in theory.

You'll be the point person coordinating and maintaining compliance across the following programs and agencies:

MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) — chain of custody and sustainability certification
HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) — food safety plans and records
Washington State Department of Agriculture
Washington State Department of Ecology — environmental permitting and reporting
NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) — fisheries and seafood regulations
OSHA — workplace safety compliance

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and update HACCP plans; monitor critical control points and ensure documentation is audit-ready at all times
Coordinate and prepare the facility for MSC chain-of-custody audits and surveillance visits
Serve as the primary liaison with Dept. of Agriculture, Dept. of Ecology, and NOAA inspectors and auditors
Track and manage OSHA compliance, including safety documentation, training records, and incident reporting
Conduct internal audits and inspections to proactively identify and correct compliance gaps
Maintain accurate, organized records and documentation systems for all certifications and regulatory programs
Develop and deliver staff training on compliance procedures, food safety protocols, and workplace safety standards
Stay current on changes to regulations and certification requirements across all governing programs, and update internal policies accordingly
Partner with plant management and production teams to build a culture of compliance on the floor

Qualifications

Required:

Previous experience working in a fish or seafood processing environment (required — no exceptions)
Demonstrated experience with HACCP plan development and management
Working knowledge of at least one of the following: MSC certification, NOAA fisheries regulations, OSHA standards, or state agricultural/environmental compliance
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience corresponding with regulatory agencies and auditors
Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
Ability to work both independently and cross-functionally with production, sanitation, and management teams
Comfortable working in a plant environment (cold, wet conditions; PPE required)

Preferred:

HACCP certification (or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe)
Experience preparing for or hosting third-party audits (MSC, BRC, SQF, or similar)
Familiarity with Washington State Dept. of Agriculture and Dept. of Ecology reporting requirements
Prior role titled Quality Assurance, Compliance Coordinator, Regulatory Affairs Specialist, or similar within seafood/food manufacturing

Pay Range: $110,000 – $140,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and certifications
