Job Type: Full-Time Position: Working Fleet Manager / CDL Driver – Dump Truck Operations
Fleet Size: 4 Dump Trucks
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Fleet Manager / CDL Driver to oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and readiness of our four-truck dump truck fleet.
This is a working manager position. We are looking for someone who can manage the fleet and drivers while also being willing and able to drive a dump truck, troubleshoot mechanical problems, perform basic to intermediate repairs, and coordinate outside repairs when necessary.
The ideal candidate understands that keeping trucks on the road is critical to the business. This person will take ownership of preventative maintenance, DOT compliance, repairs, driver accountability, equipment condition, and overall fleet efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Management & Maintenance
- Seek bids, and network for new contracts.
- Oversee the daily operation and condition of a fleet of four dump trucks.
- Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all trucks.
- Track oil changes, filters, brakes, tires, fluids, inspections, and other scheduled maintenance.
- Conduct or oversee regular truck inspections.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and determine whether repairs can be completed in-house or require an outside repair facility.
- Perform basic to intermediate mechanical repairs when qualified and appropriate.
- Coordinate repairs with outside diesel shops, tire vendors, dealerships, and mobile mechanics.
- Minimize truck downtime and keep equipment available for scheduled work.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Monitor repair costs and identify recurring mechanical problems.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of commonly needed parts, fluids, filters, and supplies.
Driving & Field Operations
- Maintain a valid CDL and be capable of operating company dump trucks.
- Drive when needed due to workload, driver absences, scheduling issues, or other operational needs.
- Safely haul materials such as dirt, rock, gravel, asphalt, construction debris, and other materials as required.
- Perform proper pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Identify mechanical or safety issues before they result in breakdowns or lost production.
Driver Management
- Help oversee and coordinate company drivers.
- Ensure drivers properly inspect and care for assigned equipment.
- Hold drivers accountable for reporting mechanical issues and damage.
- Assist with driver scheduling and daily truck assignments.
- Help train drivers on proper truck operation, inspections, maintenance reporting, and equipment care.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
DOT & Safety Compliance
- Help ensure trucks remain compliant with DOT and company safety requirements.
- Monitor annual inspections, registrations, permits, and required fleet documentation.
- Ensure driver inspection reports and maintenance records are properly maintained.
- Address safety-related defects immediately.
- Help prepare trucks and records for DOT inspections.
Qualifications
Required:
- Valid CDL Class A or Class B with appropriate endorsements.
- Experience operating dump trucks or similar heavy commercial equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of diesel trucks and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot mechanical problems.
- Understanding of brakes, tires, suspension, electrical systems, air systems, fluids, and general diesel truck maintenance.
- Ability and willingness to perform hands-on maintenance and repairs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Dependable and able to respond when equipment or operational issues arise.
- Clean or acceptable driving record.
Preferred:
- Previous fleet manager, shop foreman, lead driver, diesel mechanic, or maintenance supervisor experience.
- Hands-on experience with heavy-duty diesel truck repairs.
- Experience managing a small commercial truck fleet.
- Experience with dump trucks and vocational/heavy construction equipment.
- DOT compliance and inspection experience.
- Experience working with Mack, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, or similar heavy-duty trucks.
What We Are Looking For
This position is best suited for someone who is hands-on and takes ownership.
We are not looking for a fleet manager who only handles paperwork and sends every issue to a repair shop. We want someone who can inspect a truck, understand what is wrong, determine the best way to repair it, communicate with mechanics and vendors, and perform repairs themselves when practical.
At the same time, this person must be willing to get behind the wheel and drive when the business needs additional coverage.
The goal of this position is simple: keep our trucks safe, maintained, compliant, and on the road making money.

- Salary pay: $1,200.00 weekly , plus

Schedule
Full-time position. Typical schedule will follow company hauling operations, with additional availability occasionally required for breakdowns, repairs, preventative maintenance, or operational needs.
