Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Journeyman Electrician to join our field operations team. In this vital role, you will install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-power EV charging systems across commercial and industrial sites throughout California and the U.S. Your expertise will ensure that our charging infrastructure operates safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable state and local requirements.
This is a high-autonomy role on a small team. You will work side-by-side with our U.S. operations staff and directly with product and R&D engineers at our Korean headquarters — often on live video calls standing at a charger, diagnosing in real time. If you like solving problems that don't have a manual written for them yet, this is that job.
The position starts at a minimum of 20 hours per week and scales as our deployment and service volume grows. The path to full-time with a full benefits package is real and near-term, and we will be direct with you about the ramp.
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and EV supply equipment in commercial and industrial environments, ensuring adherence to electrical building codes, NFPA 70 (NEC) standards, and NEC Article 625
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals to accurately execute wiring, terminations, and system configurations
- Perform 480V three-phase and high-voltage DC wiring tasks safely, following established electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and arc-flash protocols
- Commission new DC fast chargers: pre-energization checks, insulation resistance and grounding verification, power-up sequencing, network connection, and full charge-session testing
- Conduct diagnostics using ohmmeters, ammeters, multimeters, megohmmeters, and power quality analyzers to isolate faults within electrical circuits, power modules, and charging equipment
- Maintain the installed fleet through routine inspections, preventative maintenance, component replacement, and firmware updates to minimize downtime
- Service and repair charger subsystems including power modules, contactors, CCS/NACS cables and connectors, liquid cooling systems, pumps and fans, HMI displays, and communication boards
- Install and commission control equipment, low voltage systems, and automation components — including charger control boards, CAN and RS-485 networks, cellular modems, and PLC-based site controls where present
- Support installation partners and general contractors on site: verify conduit runs, service entrance, switchgear, and utility work against approved drawings
- Conduct site surveys and pre-construction walks; validate service capacity, load calculations, and equipment placement
- Coordinate with utilities, AHJs, and inspectors on permits, corrections, and final sign-off
- Partner with headquarters engineering in Korea on root-cause analysis, engineering change rollouts, and design feedback from the field
- Document all work accurately: service tickets, asset records, photos, as-builts, and warranty claims
- Train customer site staff on basic operation and first-line troubleshooting
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and construction site equipment efficiently while maintaining safety standards at all times
Qualifications
- Active California State-Certified General Electrician certification (journeyman card, issued by DIR) — required
- C-10 Electrical Contractor license (CSLB), or eligibility to qualify for one — strongly preferred
- Proven experience as a Journeyman Electrician with a strong background in industrial and commercial electrical work
- Extensive knowledge of electrical diagnostics, troubleshooting techniques, and system installation processes
- Familiarity with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) compliance requirements and electrical building codes, including Article 625 governing electric vehicle supply equipment
- Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals accurately for precise installation or repair work
- Experience working with 480V three-phase and high-voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, panelboards, and large-conductor terminations
- Skilled in using hand tools such as wire strippers and screwdrivers; power tools including drills; torque tools; and testing instruments including ammeters, ohmmeters, and megohmmeters
- Construction site experience with a focus on safety procedures related to electrical maintenance and installation tasks
- NFPA 70E arc-flash trained; OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform electrical troubleshooting efficiently under pressure
- Knowledge of low voltage systems, control wiring, and equipment maintenance and repair techniques is highly desirable
- Valid California driver's license and clean driving record
- Able to lift 50 lbs, work from ladders and lifts, and work outdoors in varied conditions
- Willing to travel regionally, with occasional overnight trips
Preferred Qualifications
- EVITP certification — a major plus, and required on many of the projects we bid
- Direct field experience with DC fast charging hardware from any manufacturer (ABB, BTC Power, Delta, SK Signet, Tritium, Alpitronic, Autel, and others)
- Familiarity with OCPP, networked charger management platforms, or remote diagnostics
- Experience working across time zones with an overseas engineering team
- Bilingual English/Korean is helpful given daily collaboration with our headquarters engineering team, but is not required — our HQ engineers work in English with the U.S. team every day
