Caltest Analytical Laboratory has an immediate opening for a Metals candidate that would become part of our team working at an established, accredited, family owned, commercial environmental production laboratory serving Northern California for over 44 years.
Daily duties may involve any or all of the following areas of testing: metals digestions and analysis (i.e. EPA 200.8, 6020); mercury digestion and analysis (i.e. EPA 245.1, 1631, 7470, 7471); methyl mercury digestion and analysis (i.e. EPA 1630). Other duties involve calculation and preparation of analytical standards, reagents, and/or solutions; preparing appropriate glassware; maintaining thorough documentation according to established requirements; and providing support to other tasks as needed.
Must be able to perform analyses for regulatory studies working under prescribed procedures (standard operating procedures, methods, established quality control parameters, etc.), document and report data in a timely manner according to regulatory requirements and ensure data accuracy and quality. Must be able to understand/perform fundamental analytical chemistry/biology procedures along with good quality control measures and be able to effectively communicate, summarize and present information as well as respond to questions from groups such as management, clients and colleagues. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required; knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint and LIMS desired.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as be able to work successfully in a group setting. Knowledge of scientific discipline, relevant technical skills, laboratory equipment preferred. Organizational skills and ability to follow direction required. Safe handling of toxic chemicals, maintaining a clean and orderly work space, the use of personal protective equipment and the exercising of laboratory safety practices required.
Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area such as chemistry, inorganic chemistry, environmental chemistry, etc. (equivalent experience may be considered as a substitute). Previous laboratory experience as well as experience in EPA and Standard Methods is highly preferred. Must have an interest in working in a fast-paced, dynamic laboratory setting and comfortable working with chemicals.
Full-time position (40 hours/week with occasional overtime), with some additional work required as needed to meet client demands). This position is typically Monday through Friday but is also eligible for a Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday shift if desired.
Lab located in Napa, CA in the north SF Bay area. Compensation $27-32/hr; commensurate to experience and education.
