Full Job Description

Position Overview:

The Welder's Assistant provides hands-on support to welders and the fabrication team by preparing materials, assisting with metal fabrication tasks, maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring work areas remain clean and organized. This position performs essential duties such as grinding, cutting, drilling, cleaning, painting, and assisting with the installation of fabricated components.

The Welder's Assistant plays a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality production while learning welding and fabrication techniques under the guidance of experienced welders.

Key Responsibilities:

Grinding – Grind and smooth metal surfaces and welds to remove imperfections and prepare for finishing.
Cutting – Cut metal materials to required measurements using appropriate tools and equipment.
Making Holes – Measure, mark, and drill holes according to specifications.
Cleaning Metal – Clean metal surfaces to remove contaminants before welding or finishing.
Clean Working Area – Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Painting Metal – Apply primer, paint, or protective coatings to finished metal components.
Installing – Assist with the installation and assembly of fabricated metal components.
Cleaning Welds – Remove slag, spatter, and excess material from completed welds to prepare them for inspection or finishing.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or industrial environment is preferred but not required.
Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
Mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn welding and metal fabrication techniques.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to walk, stand, climb ladders, crouch, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat, dust, noise, and outdoor job sites as needed.
Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, drills, and other fabrication equipment.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
