Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented UR Coordinator to join our psychiatric hospital team. In this vital role, you will oversee the utilization review process, ensuring that patient care is delivered efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. Your expertise will help optimize clinical workflows, facilitate effective discharge planning, and support the delivery of high-quality mental health services. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient-centered care within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive utilization reviews for inpatient psychiatric cases, ensuring appropriateness of care based on clinical documentation and established criteria such as ICD-10/ICD-9 coding standards and CMS guidelines.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nursing, physicians, case managers, and social workers to facilitate timely discharge planning and coordinate post-discharge services like home care or hospice care.
Review medical records and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with HIPAA regulations and NCQA standards.
Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Cerner, Epic, or Athenahealth to document review findings and communicate recommendations effectively.
Analyze clinical data using CPT coding, DRG assignments, and ICD coding to support medical management decisions and ensure proper reimbursement processes.
Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives related to utilization management, clinical documentation improvement, and health information management.
Stay current with healthcare regulations including Medicare policies, Managed Care requirements, and trauma center standards to ensure continuous compliance.

Skills

Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation practices within inpatient psychiatric settings.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Epic (including eClinicalWorks), or Athenahealth for documentation review and data entry.
Strong understanding of ICD-10/ICD-9/ICD coding systems, CPT coding procedures, DRG classifications, and utilization review protocols.
Experience with managed care processes, Medicare regulations, HIPAA compliance, and NCQA standards for healthcare quality assurance.
Critical care experience in acute or ICU settings is highly desirable; familiarity with Level I/II trauma centers or emergency medicine is a plus.
Background in case management or health information management within inpatient or outpatient environments; nursing home or hospice experience is advantageous.
