Full Job Description

Brown County Indiana Habitat for Humanity is seeking a Construction Manager who is ready to build homes, lead volunteers, solve problems, and help expand affordable housing opportunities in Brown County.

This is a field-based role with regular office time for scheduling, ordering materials, preparing volunteer build days, coordinating subcontractors, completing documentation, and communicating with the Executive Director.

The Construction Manager will regularly lead volunteers on active build sites. When volunteers are not present, the Construction Manager must be comfortable working independently on appropriate construction tasks, site preparation, punch-list work, material organization, cleanup, and project preparation.

This role supports the affiliate's goal of building approximately three safe, affordable homes per year while maintaining quality, safety, volunteer engagement, and homeowner success.

Brown County Indiana Habitat for Humanity is growing. We are working to build more safe, affordable homes, support families through homeownership, and explore new housing models that can help meet Brown County's housing needs.

The Construction Manager will help lead that work. This role is hands-on, mission-driven, and people-focused. The right person will be comfortable leading volunteers, coordinating subcontractors, solving job site problems, and helping build homes that families can be proud to own.

What You'll Do

The Construction Manager leads day-to-day construction activity for Habitat homebuyer builds and assists with Brush with Kindness repair projects as needed.

· Lead volunteers on regular build days with patience, clear direction, and a strong focus on safety.

· Work independently on appropriate construction tasks when volunteers are not scheduled or available.

· Prepare job sites before work begins, including access, waste/refuse removal, toilet service, water, electric, tools, materials, and subcontractor readiness.

· Build and maintain realistic construction schedules and provide weekly written updates to the Executive Director.

· Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, utilities, inspections, materials, and deliveries.

· Maintain safe, clean, organized, and professional job sites.

· Review work for quality, plan compliance, safety, and long-term durability.

· Communicate respectfully with homeowner families, volunteers, donors, subcontractors, inspectors, board members, and community partners.

· Assist with Brush with Kindness repair projects as needed.

· Serve as a member of the Site Selection Committee and help evaluate buildable land, with a focus on suitable sites and larger parcels that support long-term affiliate stability.

· Help the affiliate review future housing models, including multi-family construction, pocket communities, subdivisions, modular housing, panelized systems, and other methods that may improve affordability, speed, and quality.

What We're Looking For

· Residential construction knowledge and experience.

· Ability to read and follow construction plans.

· Ability to lead volunteers and work well with people of different skill levels.

· Ability to manage schedules, subcontractors, materials, inspections, utilities, and job site needs.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

· Strong communication, follow-through, organization, and problem-solving skills.

· Valid driver's license and ability to be insured under affiliate policies.

· Ability to obtain and maintain Habitat for Humanity Competent Person certification/training.

· Ability to pass required background checks, motor vehicle record checks, or other screenings required by Habitat, insurers, grantors, or applicable law.

Preferred Experience

· Residential construction leadership experience.

· Experience working with volunteers, nonprofits, or affordable housing programs.

· Experience managing subcontractors and vendors.

· Experience with rural construction sites, crawl spaces, stepped foundations, drainage challenges, or difficult site access.

· Experience with modular, panelized, multi-family, or other alternative housing methods.

· OSHA, First Aid/CPR, or similar safety-related training.

Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits

· Full-time position.

· Regular schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday and Monday as regular days off, unless otherwise approved or directed by the Executive Director.

· Expected hiring range is $50,000 to $55,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

· Paid training and education related to the position.

· Travel and mileage reimbursement for approved work-related travel.

· Paid time off accrued in accordance with affiliate policy.

· Brown County Indiana Habitat for Humanity does not currently provide employer-sponsored health insurance.
