Junior Technical Interior Designer / Drafter
Independent Contractor | Hybrid – Franklin, TN | 2–3 Years Experience
Position Overview
We are a growing luxury residential interior design studio based in Franklin, Tennessee, seeking a Junior Technical Interior Designer / Drafter with 2–3 years of professional experience to join our team on a contract basis.
This role is ideal for a designer with a strong technical foundation, an understanding and appreciation of high-end residential interiors, and the ability to translate design concepts into accurate, detailed, construction-ready documentation.
The majority of this role will focus on technical drawing production, furniture space planning, custom millwork and cabinetry details, and project documentation. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or SketchUp is important.
We are a small, collaborative, all-hands-on-deck studio. Our team works together in our Franklin studio on Mondays and Wednesdays, with flexibility for remote work and scheduling outside of those collaborative studio days.
While technical documentation is the primary responsibility of this position, our team works closely together throughout the entire design process. Depending on the project, you may also assist with design development, sourcing, presentations, installations, styling, vendor visits, and market trips.
For someone who is technically strong, eager to learn, and passionate about beautiful residential interiors, there is significant opportunity to grow and become increasingly involved in the design and execution of our projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and technically precise AutoCAD and/or Revit drawings and construction documentation
- Develop comprehensive interior drawing packages, including floor plans, furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and interior details

- Produce detailed room elevations, custom millwork, cabinetry, built-ins, and architectural details
- Translate design concepts, sketches, and markups into accurate, coordinated, and construction-ready drawings
- Build and maintain project models and design studies in SketchUp and/or Revit
- Coordinate drawings with architectural elements, lighting, electrical, plumbing, millwork, furniture, and other project requirements
- Review drawings and documentation carefully to identify and resolve discrepancies before issuance
- Incorporate redlines and drawing revisions accurately and efficiently
- Learn and consistently follow studio drawing standards and documentation procedures
- Assist senior designers with drawing reviews, specifications, sourcing, presentations, and project coordination
- Maintain organized project files, drawing sets, models, schedules, and documentation
- Participate in residential installations and styling alongside the design team
- Assist with vendor visits, sourcing, and design market trips when applicable
- Jump in to support the team wherever needed throughout the design and installation process

- Previous experience working on high-end or luxury residential interior projects strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and consultant drawings
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Comfortable taking direction, incorporating redlines, and managing revisions efficiently
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Professional, dependable, proactive, and solutions-oriented
- Collaborative attitude and willingness to jump in and support the team when needed

The Opportunity
This is a technical position at its core, but we don't believe in keeping our team members in a box.
We are a hands-on residential design studio, and everyone contributes to bringing our projects to life. You may spend much of your week developing a drawing package or detailing custom cabinetry, but you'll also have opportunities to collaborate on furniture layouts and design decisions, participate in installations, visit vendors, source materials, and experience design markets alongside the team.
You'll gain exposure to the full lifecycle of high-end residential interiors—from early space planning and design development through detailed documentation, construction, procurement, and final installation in the home.
For the right person, there is plenty of opportunity to grow technically and creatively, take on greater responsibility, and become increasingly involved in the design process.
