Full Job Description

General Information: At Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (MTKO), our mission is to relieve hunger, overcome homelessness, address addiction, and provide outreach and advocacy in Lincoln. Our values include integrity, dignity, empowerment, compassion, inclusion and diversity. MTKO serves two meals a day (lunch at 11:30 and dinner at 5:30) 365 days per year.

General Purpose: The Kitchen Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing the organization’s hunger relief initiatives and day to day activities of the kitchen. The individual will also represent the organization in various outside activities. The Kitchen Manager currently has two direct reports.

Compensation will be determined based on experience.

Essential Job Functions:

Maintain a current ServSafe certification to ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized kitchen
Coordinate or assist with agency facility needs as they relate to kitchen operations
Work with the Director to ensure that there is little to no food waste in the kitchen
Set up dish room for lunch dishes and dinner dishes If dishwashing assistant is unavailable, ensure all dishes left from lunch and evening teams are washed and put away
Responsible for all laundry related to the kitchen
Sweep and mop the dish room and kitchen, periodically scrubbing areas as needed
Take out all trash from the dining room, dish room, and kitchen, and reline all trash cans
Take out all recycling including cardboard, tin, and plastic, and reline all recycle bins
Help with all donations (food and other) that are brought to the service door
Make sure the kitchen, dish room, pantry, and laundry areas are clean for the evening and weekend teams
Responsible for cleanliness of the kitchen, pantry, dish room, laundry, and all refrigerators & freezers. Deep understanding of health codes, sanitation standards, and safety regulations.
Inventory, order, refill and restock all supplies/food for the kitchen, bathrooms (including public bathrooms), and dish room
Work with Director to plan and prepare any meals that are not covered by Hunger Relief Teams
Ability to quickly and efficiently create a meal with multiple components (main dish, vegetable, fruit, etc) that will feed up to 160 individuals
Answer the doorbell and accept and put away donations
Put supplies away after deliveries
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Adhere to all agency policies and procedures
Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and proof of insurance
Ability to hire, train, schedule, and motivate kitchen staff while resolving workplace conflicts.

Required Qualifications: The Kitchen Manager shall have relevant kitchen experience of at least two years and must also maintain current ServSafe certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

A genuine interest in the working poor and homeless and the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds within the agency and the community
The ability to organize tasks and complete them in an efficient manner
The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences.
Experience, education, or passion for ideal nutrition is a plus
An Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management is preferred.
2 to 5+ years working in commercial kitchens, with a proven track record as a line cook, sous-chef, or shift supervisor.
