Director of Operations – Upscale Full-Service Hotel

Confidential Hotel – Jersey City Area, NJ

A confidential upscale, full-service hotel in the Jersey City area is seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Operations to oversee day-to-day hotel operations.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience across both Rooms Division and Food & Beverage, along with Marriott-branded hotel and union hotel experience. We are seeking a highly visible hotel operator who can lead department heads, drive guest satisfaction, maintain brand standards, and improve overall operational and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and oversight of daily Rooms and Food & Beverage operations.
Lead Front Office, Housekeeping, Restaurants/Bars, Banquets and other operational departments.
Coach and develop department heads while establishing clear performance expectations and accountability.
Maintain a strong, hands-on presence throughout the hotel.
Drive guest satisfaction and ensure consistent execution of upscale service and Marriott brand standards.
Monitor guest feedback and service scores and implement corrective action when necessary.
Manage labor productivity, scheduling, payroll and departmental expenses.
Review P&Ls, forecasts, budgets and departmental operating results.
Identify opportunities to increase revenue, improve productivity and control operating costs.
Oversee F&B service, restaurant/bar operations, banquet execution and cost controls.
Ensure Front Office and Housekeeping consistently achieve cleanliness, service and productivity standards.
Work effectively within a union environment and ensure compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and established labor practices.
Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, performance management and union-related matters.
Ensure compliance with Marriott standards, company policies, safety requirements and applicable regulations.
Serve as Manager on Duty and provide senior hotel leadership coverage as required.

Qualifications

Minimum 7 years of progressive management experience in upscale, full-service hotels.
Strong operational experience in both Rooms Division and Food & Beverage required.
Marriott hotel experience strongly preferred.
Union hotel experience strongly preferred.
Previous experience as Director of Operations, Hotel Manager, Director of Rooms, Director of Food & Beverage, Assistant General Manager or comparable senior hotel leadership position.
Strong understanding of upscale full-service hotel operations, including Front Office, Housekeeping, Restaurants/Bars and Banquets.
Experience working with brand standards, quality assurance programs and guest satisfaction metrics.
Strong financial acumen with experience in P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, labor management and cost control.
Proven ability to lead and develop department heads and large operational teams.
Strong leadership, communication, employee relations and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on hotel business levels, including evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration or related field preferred; equivalent hotel leadership experience will be considered.

The successful candidate will bring upscale full-service hotel experience, familiarity with Marriott standards and systems, and the ability to successfully lead teams in a union environment while maintaining strong employee relations, guest satisfaction and financial discipline.
