Full Job Description

Part Time School Nurse

Ranney School is seeking a part-time nurse to treat student, faculty or staff injuries or illnesses and advise students, their parents or guardians, and staff on health issues. Apart from injuries and sudden ailments, the school nurse also supports students with chronic illnesses and disabilities – for example, by administering medication to them (e.g. insulin injections and seizure medications). The school nurse also promotes health-related habits (e.g. proper hand-washing) and ensures compliance with national and local health policies for schools.

The ideal candidate will have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with practical experience
Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Strong networking skills to ensure access to resources in the broader community
Detail-oriented and resourceful
Tactful and discreet
Technology skills
High-energy and enthusiastic about working in an independent school atmosphere
Flexible schedule to allow for timing of field trips and athletic events
Possess a passion for working with children and adolescents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide healthcare to students with acute or chronic health problems
Conduct screenings in accordance with state regulations
Develop and monitor health plans for students
Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene
Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
Keep track of students’ health and vaccination records
Update students’ medical history
Ensure school environment is safe for children and school staff (e.g. prevention of communicable diseases)
Assist with understanding and management of students’ known allergies and health needs with faculty and staff who need to know
Attend field trips to support students with health action plans and other health care needs
Ensure compliance with national and local health laws

Compensation:

$40/hour, 24 hours/week, summers are off
