Job Summary:
The primary function of the Database & Applications Engineer is to administer, develop, integrate, secure, and support the firm's business applications and databases. This position is responsible for application administration, database management, automation, reporting, integration, and development of business solutions that improve operational efficiency and enhance attorney and staff productivity.
The position serves as the senior technical resource for enterprise applications and databases while working closely with Infrastructure, Security, Desktop Support, Knowledge Management, and business stakeholders, specifically accounting, to evaluate, implement, and maintain modern technology solutions.
Responsibilities:
➢ Administer Microsoft SQL Server databases including installation, configuration, security, performance tuning, backup, recovery, maintenance, and upgrades.
➢ Design, develop, optimize, and maintain SQL databases, stored procedures, views, indexes, and reporting solutions.
➢ Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance while proactively identifying optimization opportunities.
➢ Manage enterprise application installations, upgrades, patching, configuration, and lifecycle management.
➢ Administer Microsoft SharePoint Online, including document libraries, lists, permissions, workflows, forms, and site collections.
➢ Develop and maintain Microsoft Power Platform solutions including Power Automate workflows, Power Apps, and Power BI dashboards.
➢ Design, develop, and support integrations between enterprise applications using APIs, web services, SQL, and middleware technologies.
➢ Support Microsoft 365 technologies including SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, Forms, and related collaboration services.
➢ Assist with administration and support of legal applications including iManage Cloud, Litera Desktop, Everlaw, Intapp, Harvey AI, and other business-critical systems.
➢ Develop automation solutions that eliminate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
➢ Perform data migrations, data imports, exports, cleansing, validation, and transformation activities.
➢ Develop custom reports and dashboards utilizing Power BI, PowerShell, and other reporting platforms.
➢ Troubleshoot complex application and database issues while identifying root causes and implementing permanent solutions.
➢ Maintain application documentation, system architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
➢ Assist with identity integration utilizing Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, and Single Sign-On technologies.
➢ Ensure application security, licensing compliance, auditing, and adherence to firm governance standards.
➢ Coordinate with software vendors regarding escalated support issues, upgrades, licensing, and product enhancements.
➢ Evaluate emerging technologies, artificial intelligence platforms, and cloud services that enhance legal service delivery.
➢ Participate in after-hours maintenance windows and provide paid on-call support on a rotating basis.
➢ Special projects as assigned by management.
Supervision Received and/or Given:
➢ Supervision received from the Chief Information Officer.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
➢ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
➢ Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and enterprise business applications.
➢ Experience supporting Microsoft 365 including SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Microsoft Entra ID.
➢ Experience developing SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and database optimization techniques.
➢ Experience administering Microsoft Power Platform including Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI.
➢ Experience with REST APIs, application integrations, JSON, XML, and modern authentication technologies.
➢ Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, IIS, and enterprise application hosting.
➢ Experience troubleshooting complex application, database, and integration issues.
➢ Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and project management skills.
➢ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
➢ Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional customer service.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
➢ Experience supporting legal applications such as iManage Cloud, Litera Desktop, Everlaw, Intapp, DocuSign, and Elite.
➢ Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure SQL Database, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Azure Storage.
➢ Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Harvey AI, and AI-powered workflow automation.
➢ Experience administering Microsoft Teams Rooms and Microsoft Graph API integrations.
➢ Experience with source control platforms such as GitHub or Azure DevOps.
➢ Experience with scripting languages including PowerShell, Visual Studio or JavaScript.
➢ Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices including least privilege, vulnerability remediation, identity management, and compliance frameworks.
➢ Experience within a large professional services or law firm environment preferred.
Working Conditions:
This position requires sitting for extended periods while operating computer equipment and multiple monitors. Employees in this position may be required to work outside normal business hours to perform application upgrades, maintenance, troubleshooting, disaster recovery testing, and production support. Employees must be mobile and capable of bending, kneeling, crawling under workstations or equipment as needed, and lifting or carrying equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds.
Pay: $105,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
