Full Job Description

Night Manager / Working Supervisor

Serenity Senior Living
Schedule: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM, five nights per week
Weekend Requirement: Works two weekends per month and serves on-call the other two weekends

Position Summary

The Night Manager is a hands-on working supervisor responsible for maintaining the safety, care, organization, and smooth operation of Serenity Senior Living during overnight hours.

This position combines direct resident care with active supervision of the overnight caregiving team. The Night Manager is expected to lead by example, participate fully in resident care, assign and monitor staff responsibilities, respond to changes in resident condition, manage staffing issues, and ensure that management receives timely and accurate information regarding residents, families, staff, and facility operations.

This is not a desk-based management position. The Night Manager is an active member of the caregiving team and is expected to provide personal care and assist wherever needed while maintaining responsibility for the overall overnight shift.

Essential Responsibilities

Resident Care

Provide hands-on personal care to residents as needed, including toileting, incontinence care, transfers, repositioning, dressing, hygiene, and other activities of daily living.
Conduct appropriate resident rounds and ensure resident safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the night.
Monitor residents for changes in condition, behavior, pain, mobility, cognition, or other concerns.
Ensure important changes in resident status are appropriately documented and communicated to management.
Contact hospice, home health, EMS, or other appropriate providers when circumstances require.
Follow resident service plans, medication instructions, facility policies, and established care procedures.
Assist with medication management and delegated medication responsibilities when properly trained and authorized.

Staff Supervision

Direct and supervise caregivers working during the overnight shift.
Assign resident responsibilities, routine duties, and special projects.
Ensure assigned work is completed correctly and within the shift.
Provide direction and support to staff when resident care situations arise.
Address caregiver call-ins and immediately work to maintain appropriate staffing coverage.
Identify performance, attendance, conduct, or training concerns and report them promptly to management.
Help reinforce Serenity Senior Living's standards for professionalism, resident care, teamwork, and accountability.
Provide coaching and direction to caregivers when immediate correction is appropriate.

Communication and Reporting

Maintain management awareness of significant overnight events and operational concerns.
Provide clear updates regarding resident condition changes, incidents, falls, behavioral concerns, family communications, staffing issues, and unresolved matters.
Document incidents accurately and promptly.
Ensure important information is communicated to the incoming shift.
Keep management informed of significant family questions, concerns, requests, or communications.
Maintain accurate and complete shift documentation.

Scheduling and Staffing

Assist with overnight staffing schedules and assignments.
Respond to employee call-ins and work to identify replacement coverage.
Communicate staffing shortages or concerns to management.
Maintain awareness of upcoming staffing needs and potential coverage issues.
When serving as the on-call manager, assist with locating replacement staff and be prepared to personally cover an uncovered shift when necessary.

Facility Operations

Assist with ordering resident, caregiving, household, and facility supplies as assigned.
Monitor overnight supply needs and report shortages before they affect resident care.
Assign and oversee special projects, cleaning responsibilities, organizational tasks, and other operational duties.
Ensure the facility remains clean, organized, safe, and prepared for the following day.
Identify maintenance, safety, security, or operational concerns and communicate them to management.

Weekend and On-Call Responsibilities

The Night Manager is expected to participate in weekend leadership coverage.

Work approximately two weekends per month as part of the regular overnight schedule.
Serve as the designated on-call manager for approximately two weekends per month when not scheduled to work.
During on-call weekends, remain available by phone to assist staff with questions and operational concerns.
Respond to caregiver call-ins and actively work to locate replacement coverage.
Be available to report to the facility and cover an open shift when adequate replacement coverage cannot be secured.
Escalate significant resident, staffing, safety, or operational concerns to ownership or senior management as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required

Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
Previous experience working in assisted living, senior care, memory care, or a similar residential care environment.
Experience caring for residents with dementia or cognitive impairment.
Experience with medication management and/or delegated medication administration.
Ability and willingness to perform hands-on personal care.
Strong judgment and ability to make appropriate decisions during overnight hours.
Ability to supervise, direct, and hold staff accountable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Reliable attendance and ability to respond to staffing emergencies.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Ability to work independently while keeping management appropriately informed.

Preferred

CNA certification.
Prior assisted living supervisory or management experience.
Experience managing overnight or weekend healthcare staff.
CPR and First Aid certification.
At least 2 years of senior-care or assisted-living experience, with prior leadership responsibility strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

The Night Manager must be physically capable of performing direct resident care, including:

Standing and walking for extended periods.
Bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
Assisting residents with transfers, repositioning, and mobility.
Responding quickly to resident emergencies.
Performing overnight caregiving responsibilities throughout the scheduled shift.

Leadership Expectations

The Night Manager is expected to be dependable, calm, organized, and proactive. Because senior management may not be physically present overnight, this position requires someone who can recognize problems, take appropriate immediate action, communicate effectively, and maintain Serenity Senior Living's standards without constant supervision.

The successful Night Manager understands that leadership at Serenity means being willing to perform the same work expected of the caregiving team while also accepting responsibility for the quality and completion of that work.

Schedule Expectations

Regular Schedule:
11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Five overnight shifts per week

The schedule will generally include two working weekends each month and two weekends of on-call responsibility. Exact days may vary based on resident needs, staffing requirements, vacations, call-ins, and facility operations.

Because this is a supervisory position, occasional additional coverage may be required when staffing emergencies occur.

Pay: $18.50 - $23.00 per hour
