Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple retail locations. This role will own core accounting functions, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and support compliance in a regulated cannabis environment.

This is a high-impact role in a fast-growing startup, ideal for someone who can both execute and improve systems. The right candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working across bookkeeping, reporting, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions
Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations across multiple entities
Oversee accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, collections, and vendor payments
Coordinate and support payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and alignment with internal records
Own the accuracy and integrity of financial records across all entities

Month-End Close & Reporting

Lead month-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Analyze variances and identify discrepancies, escalating issues as needed
Maintain organized, audit-ready financial documentation

Inventory & Retail Accounting

Reconcile inventory balances across POS, accounting systems, and seed-to-sale platforms
Track inventory adjustments including shrinkage, returns, and write-offs
Support cost and margin analysis to improve visibility into store performance

Compliance & Audit Support

Ensure accounting practices align with GAAP and cannabis regulatory requirements
Ensure alignment between financial records and seed-to-sale tracking systems
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests
Maintain clean, compliant financial records across all entities

Systems & Process Improvement

Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and implement improvements
Support integrations between POS, payroll, and accounting systems
Help standardize processes and documentation as the company scales

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with operations, HR, and leadership to ensure financial accuracy
Provide clear financial reporting and insights to non-finance stakeholders

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
4–6 years of accounting experience, preferably in retail or multi-entity environments
Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting fundamentals
Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar)
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic analysis)
Experience with inventory accounting strongly preferred
Familiarity with cannabis compliance systems (e.g., METRC, Treez) is a plus
Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
Experience supporting audit cleanup or rebuilding accounting processes in a startup environment is a plus
