The Opportunity
We are looking for a High School Math Teacher who understands that mathematics is not simply a collection of formulas students must memorize.
It is a way of thinking.
A strong math classroom teaches students how to analyze information, identify relationships, test possible solutions, defend their reasoning, and continue working when the answer is not immediately clear.
You will be responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned mathematics instruction while creating a classroom where students feel challenged, supported, and accountable for their growth.
Depending on the school’s instructional schedule and the candidate’s area of expertise, courses may include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, or other high school mathematics courses.
You will not simply teach students how to complete a problem.
You will help them understand why the method works, when to use it, and how to apply it independently.
What You’ll Do
1. Deliver Rigorous Mathematics Instruction
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned high school mathematics lessons
- Teach assigned courses with clear objectives, strong pacing, and appropriate academic rigor
- Break complex mathematical concepts into understandable and manageable steps
- Balance direct instruction, guided practice, collaborative problem-solving, and independent application
- Connect mathematical concepts across units so students understand how skills build over time
- Maintain accurate lesson plans, instructional materials, and course records
2. Develop Mathematical Reasoning
- Teach students to explain, justify, and defend their mathematical thinking
- Emphasize conceptual understanding in addition to procedural accuracy
- Help students recognize patterns, relationships, structures, and multiple solution methods
- Use real-world situations, modeling, and data to make mathematics meaningful
- Encourage productive struggle rather than immediately removing every challenge
- Build students’ confidence in approaching unfamiliar and multi-step problems
3. Use Assessment to Improve Instruction
- Develop and administer quizzes, tests, projects, performance tasks, and other assessments
- Use formative assessments to identify misconceptions before they become larger academic gaps
- Analyze student work and assessment results to determine what must be retaught
- Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback
- Maintain accurate grades and communicate academic progress clearly
- Prepare students for applicable New York State Regents examinations and other required assessments
4. Support Students at Different Achievement Levels
- Differentiate instruction for students with varying levels of mathematical readiness
- Provide additional scaffolding without lowering academic expectations
- Create extension opportunities for students who are ready for greater challenge
- Work with school leadership and student-support personnel to address persistent academic difficulties
- Provide intervention, tutoring, office hours, or targeted support when required
- Develop clear plans for students who are significantly below or above grade-level expectations
5. Build a Focused and Respectful Classroom
- Establish classroom routines that protect instructional time
- Maintain high expectations for student behavior, participation, preparation, and effort
- Create an environment where students can make mistakes without avoiding accountability
- Address disengagement, incomplete work, and disruptive behavior consistently
- Promote respectful academic discussion and collaboration
- Ensure students understand that ability grows through disciplined effort, feedback, and practice
6. Connect Mathematics to Students’ Futures
- Show students how mathematics applies to technology, engineering, finance, science, business, artificial intelligence, and everyday decision-making
- Incorporate appropriate technology, graphing tools, digital platforms, and instructional resources
- Help students develop the quantitative literacy needed for college and adult life
- Introduce students to mathematics-related college majors and career pathways
- Coordinate with other educators to support interdisciplinary projects and applications
- Prepare students to enter advanced coursework with the skills and habits necessary to succeed
7. Contribute to the Wellspring School Model
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, planning sessions, and school-wide initiatives
- Collaborate with other educators to strengthen curriculum alignment and instructional consistency
- Communicate professionally and proactively with students, parents, and school leadership
- Participate in student supervision, school events, testing, and other assigned responsibilities
- Support the Islamic values, expectations, and culture of NYCMC Wellspring Schools
- Model professionalism, respect, integrity, urgency, and continuous improvement
Who You Are
You do not believe a student is “just not a math person.”
You understand that students may enter your classroom with unfinished learning, low confidence, or years of frustration. You recognize those challenges without allowing them to become permanent excuses.
You can explain the same concept in more than one way.
You notice when students are copying a procedure without understanding it.
You use assessment results to change what you teach next rather than simply recording a grade.
You maintain high standards while providing the structure and support students need to reach them.

Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Engineering, Statistics, or a closely related field
- New York State teaching certification or eligibility for certification
- At least three years in a lead KG-12th Grade lead teaching role
- Strong command of high school mathematics content
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or supporting high school-aged students
- Ability to plan and deliver organized, standards-aligned instruction
- Strong classroom-management and student-engagement skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction for students with different learning needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use assessment data to guide instructional decisions
- Proficiency with educational technology, digital learning platforms, and classroom presentation tools
- Ability to work collaboratively with educators, administrators, students, and families
- Alignment with Islamic values and the culture of NYCMC Wellspring Schools
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, or advanced high school mathematics
- Experience preparing students for New York State Regents examinations
- Experience teaching in a private, charter, religious, or college-preparatory school
- Experience using project-based learning, mathematical modeling, or interdisciplinary instruction
- Experience supporting multilingual learners and students with different academic needs
- Experience using student-performance data to develop intervention and enrichment plans
