Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Workers’ Compensation Medical Biller Specialist to join our medical practice. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Worker's Compensation billing, claims processing, insurance verification, and accounts receivable.

The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately submitting medical bills, monitoring claim status, resolving denials and billing issues, communicating with insurance carriers and attorneys, and maintaining accurate documentation from initial claim submission through payment and resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Process and submit New York Workers’ Compensation medical bills accurately and in a timely manner.
Utilize AdvancedMD to enter, submit, track, and manage medical claims and billing activity.
Verify Workers’ Compensation claim information, including claim number, date of injury, carrier information, employer information, injured body parts, authorization information, and Workers’ Compensation Board case information.
Review medical records and documentation to ensure bills are complete and properly supported before submission.
Verify patient eligibility, claim status, coverage, and authorization requirements.
Monitor accounts receivable (A/R) and maintain an organized claim follow-up schedule.
Investigate and resolve rejected, denied, or underpaid claims.
Review EOBs, payment reports, and carrier correspondence.
Prepare and submit corrected bills, appeals, reconsiderations, and supporting documentation when appropriate.
Communicate with Workers’ Compensation insurance carriers regarding unpaid, disputed, or denied claims.
Communicate professionally with attorneys, insurance adjusters, employers, patients, and medical providers.
Track claims involving attorney representation, hearings, disputed claims, authorization issues, and outstanding documentation.
Maintain detailed notes and documentation regarding claim status and follow-up activity within AdvancedMD.
Identify billing discrepancies and take appropriate corrective action.
Follow up on outstanding balances and aging Workers’ Compensation accounts.
Work closely with providers and clinical staff to obtain missing documentation necessary for billing.
Ensure billing practices comply with applicable New York Workers’ Compensation requirements and office policies.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.

Required Qualifications

2+ years of medical billing experience, with significant experience in New York Workers’ Compensation billing.
Experience using AdvancedMD and GreenBills is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to navigate AdvancedMD for claim entry, billing, claim submission, payment posting, account review, A/R follow-up, and claim management.
Strong understanding of New York Workers’ Compensation medical billing and claims processes.
Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding.
Experience reviewing EOBs and resolving denials and payment discrepancies.
Strong understanding of insurance claims and accounts receivable.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines simultaneously.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate professionally with insurance carriers and attorneys.
Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a billing team.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of New York Workers’ Compensation billing experience.
Experience working in a pain management, orthopedic, physical therapy, or other specialty medical practice.
Experience working with Workers’ Compensation attorneys and insurance adjusters.
Familiarity with New York Workers’ Compensation fee schedules and billing guidelines.
Experience handling complex or disputed Workers’ Compensation claims.
Experience with electronic Workers’ Compensation billing and clearinghouse systems.
Experience with AdvancedMD in a high-volume medical billing environment.
