Overview of the Position:

Monroe University's Career Pathways Program is seeking a full-time Student Services Advisor, reporting to the Director of the Career Pathways Program and the Senior Vice President of Community and Corporate Outreach. The Student Services Advisor serves as a dedicated partner in student success, providing comprehensive academic, career, and personal support to a diverse population of adult learners, and degree-seeking students.

Monroe University's Career Pathways program helps prospective students get their dreams back on track. This 24-credit High School Equivalency program assists students to earn college credit at the same time that they earn their High School Equivalency diploma. This means that students can complete their High School Equivalency diploma and an associate degree in as little as 16 months.

Aligned with Monroe University's Career Pathways framework, the Student Services Advisor helps students identify educational and career goals, develop individualized academic plans, connect with support services, and navigate barriers that may impact persistence and degree completion. The advisor works collaboratively with students, faculty, community partners, and university departments to promote academic achievement, career advancement, workforce readiness, and lifelong learning.

This is a full-time, on-campus position based in the Bronx, New York. The position requires regular in-person interaction with students, faculty, staff, and community partners and may include occasional travel to partner sites, recruitment events, orientations, and university functions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide proactive academic advising and student support through in-person appointments, telephone, email, text messaging, and virtual meetings while documenting all interactions in the student information system.
Guide students in developing educational and career plans that align with their personal, professional, and workforce goals using Monroe University's Career Pathways framework.
Manage an assigned student caseload by building strong advisor-student relationships, identifying academic, financial, and personal barriers to success, and connecting students with appropriate university resources and support services.
Support student persistence and retention through early intervention outreach, coaching, motivational advising, and personalized action plans designed to promote successful degree completion.
Assist students with re- admissions processes, course registration, financial aid requirements, academic policies, transfer credit evaluation, satisfactory academic progress, and degree requirements.
Develop and monitor individualized academic plans within Monroe University's three-semester academic calendar to ensure timely progression toward graduation.
Advocate for students by helping them navigate institutional processes, policies, and procedures while promoting self-advocacy and informed decision-making.
Connect students to Career Pathways resources, including tutoring, academic support services, life experience credit opportunities, scholarship programs, leadership development initiatives, and career readiness services.
Collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, financial aid staff, student services personnel, workforce development partners, and community-based organizations to support student success and resolve concerns.
Analyze student performance, attendance, and engagement data to identify at-risk students, implement intervention strategies, and monitor outcomes.
Maintain accurate student records, reports, spreadsheets, and communication logs to ensure data integrity and compliance with university policies and partner requirements.
Facilitate student orientations, workshops, information sessions, and success seminars that help students navigate university resources and develop college readiness skills.
Partner strategically with university departments to process time-sensitive student requests and ensure a seamless student experience.
Participate in outreach activities, recruitment events, partner meetings, and special projects that support enrollment, retention, and completion goals.
Participate in professional development opportunities, team meetings, training sessions, and departmental initiatives to enhance student support services and advising effectiveness.
Promote a culture of student achievement, career advancement, workforce development, and lifelong learning consistent with Monroe University's mission of expanding access to higher education and supporting social mobility.
Assist the academic teams with disciplinary sanctions to serve as a liaison.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
Experience in academic advising, student services, admissions, workforce development, case management, counseling, or a related student-facing role.
A background in counseling, coaching, social services, or student support is highly desirable and will be beneficial in helping students navigate academic, personal, and financial challenges.
Demonstrated ability to build rapport, motivate students, and support diverse populations through a student-centered approach.
Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Experience working with adult learners, first-generation college students, and underrepresented populations preferred.
Ability to identify barriers to student success and develop effective intervention strategies that promote persistence and degree completion.
Commitment to Monroe University's mission of expanding educational access, supporting social mobility, and promoting student success.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday
One evening required per week
Six Saturdays per academic year or more to attend events
On-campus presence required with one remote day

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
