Full Job Description

JoelSalsa Dance Studio is looking for a reliable, organized, and proactive Studio Operations Manager / Front Desk Manager to help oversee the daily flow of our NYC dance studio.

This is a hybrid position that combines front desk leadership, customer service, student support, registration/sales follow-up, and oversight of our virtual assistant. The ideal candidate is warm, professional, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a busy evening environment while also keeping admin systems running smoothly behind the scenes.

Our studio is open primarily in the evenings for group classes, with additional classes on Saturdays. During the day, we receive incoming texts, emails, and inquiries that are handled by our virtual assistant. This role would help supervise that process, make sure leads and students are being followed up with properly, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership, solve problems, communicate clearly, and help create an excellent experience for our students from first inquiry to class check-in.

Responsibilities include:

Manage front desk operations during evening and Saturday classes
Greet students warmly and create a welcoming studio environment
Handle student check-ins, registrations, payments, class questions, and account issues
Monitor class capacity, waitlists, make-ups, and student attendance
Support new student enrollment and help convert inquiries into registrations
Follow up with leads, pending registrations, private lesson inquiries, and unresolved student issues
Oversee the virtual assistant’s daily handling of emails, texts, WhatsApp messages, and inquiries
Review open conversations and make sure all students and leads receive timely responses
Escalate important issues to the owners when needed
Communicate with instructors and staff regarding schedule changes, student issues, and class needs
Keep the studio organized and running smoothly during class hours
Prepare weekly updates on registrations, leads, waitlists, private lesson inquiries, and unresolved items
Help improve systems, communication, and the overall student experience

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

Highly organized and detail-oriented
Warm, friendly, and professional with students
Reliable and punctual
Comfortable working evenings and Saturdays
Able to manage multiple conversations and tasks at once
Proactive and able to notice what needs to be done without always being told
Strong with customer service and communication
Comfortable with sales follow-up in a friendly, non-pushy way
Able to supervise a remote assistant and hold them accountable
Calm under pressure in a busy studio environment
Tech comfortable and able to learn our registration, email, texting, and CRM systems
Interested in dance, fitness, hospitality, events, or small business operations

Dance experience is a plus, but not required. Strong customer service, management, hospitality, or administrative experience is more important.

Requirements

Prior experience in customer service, front desk, hospitality, studio/gym management, office administration, or operations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Must be available evenings and Saturdays
Comfortable using computers, email, texting platforms, spreadsheets, and scheduling/registration systems
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Must be dependable, professional, and responsible

Preferred Experience

Experience working in a dance studio, fitness studio, school, event space, or membership-based business
Experience managing or supervising another staff member or virtual assistant
Experience with sales follow-up, client communication, or student/customer retention
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

Compensation

Pay is $28–$32 per hour, depending on experience.

After a successful training period, there may be opportunities for performance-based bonuses tied to clear goals such as registration follow-up, private lesson bookings, lead response quality, student retention, and overall studio operations.
