The Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) is a vital community resource that changes the course of lives of Bronx and Manhattan residents (now adding Queens) to a degree not otherwise possible. Each year, we serve more than 40,000 preschoolers, school-age children, teens, adults, and senior citizens through our support, enrichment, education, and recreation programs, expanding their opportunities to live full, productive lives.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Support Services is a key management position responsible for the direct oversight, administration, and coordination of designated programs within the Support Services Department. The Assistant Director provides leadership to assigned programs and staff while also supporting the Director of Support Services in the overall management and development of the department.
The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring that assigned programs operate effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with agency policies, contractual requirements, applicable regulations, and established program standards. The position provides direct supervision to program managers and/or staff, monitors program performance and outcomes, manages day-to-day operations, and ensures that participants and families receive high-quality, coordinated services.
The Assistant Director works closely with the Director, senior leadership, program staff, community partners, and other agency departments to promote an integrated approach to service delivery and to advance the organization's mission.
Responsibilities:
Direct Management of Assigned Support Services Programs
- Provide direct administrative and operational oversight of assigned Support Services programs.
- Ensure that assigned programs meet established goals, objectives, performance standards, and contractual requirements.
- Develop and implement program work plans, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Monitor program operations and take appropriate action to address challenges or service gaps.
- Ensure that programs maintain effective systems for participant intake, service delivery, referrals, follow-up, and documentation.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements to the Director.
- Ensure that assigned programs remain responsive to participant, family, and community needs.
- Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by the Director of Support Services and/or Assistant Executive Director (AED) in support of the department and the overall mission of the organization.
Staff Supervision and Development
- Directly supervise assigned program managers, supervisors, coordinators, and/or other Support Services staff.
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing supervision, coaching, and feedback.
- Conduct and document staff performance evaluations in accordance with agency policies.
- Address performance concerns and implement appropriate improvement plans in collaboration with Human Resources and the Director.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and orientation of program staff.
- Identify staff training and professional-development needs.
- Promote a collaborative, respectful, accountable, and professional work environment.
Program Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure assigned programs comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, contractual requirements, licensing standards, and agency policies.
- Monitor program documentation, records, reports, and service-delivery practices.
- Conduct regular program reviews to identify strengths, deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and monitor corrective-action plans when necessary.
- Prepare programs for audits, monitoring visits, licensing reviews, and other compliance activities.
- Ensure that participant records and confidential information are maintained appropriately.
Program Performance and Data Management
- Establish and monitor measurable program performance indicators.
- Review program data to assess enrollment, participation, service utilization, outcomes, and other relevant measures.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of required reports.
- Analyze program trends and identify areas requiring intervention or additional resources.
- Use data to make informed management decisions and improve program outcomes.
- Provide regular program performance updates to the Director of Support Services.
Budget and Resource Management
- Assist with the development and management of budgets for assigned programs.
- Monitor program expenditures and ensure responsible use of resources.
- Identify staffing, equipment, supplies, training, and other resource needs.
- Work with Finance and the Director to address budgetary concerns.
- Ensure that program resources are used effectively to meet established objectives.
Participant and Family Services
- Ensure that assigned programs provide respectful, responsive, and participant-centered services.
- Monitor systems for responding to participant and family concerns.
- Ensure appropriate referrals and linkages to internal and external resources.
- Promote effective follow-up and continuity of services.
- Support practices that promote accessibility, inclusion, dignity, and respect for all participants and families.
Community Partnerships and External Relationships
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with community organizations, service providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders relevant to assigned programs.
- Identify and strengthen referral networks and community resources.
- Represent assigned programs and the agency at community meetings, professional forums, conferences, and other events as assigned.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership that enhance program services.
Support to the Director of Support Services
- Assist the Director in the overall administration and strategic development of the Support Services Department.
- Provide the Director with timely updates regarding program performance, staffing, compliance, operational issues, and emerging needs.
- Assist with department-wide planning, policy development, program development, and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Participate in leadership meetings and agency-wide initiatives as assigned.
- Provide coverage and assume delegated responsibilities in the Director's absence.
- Assist the Director in ensuring coordination and consistency among all Support Services programs.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Program Directors, Human Resources, Finance, Compliance, Operations, and other agency departments.
- Establish effective communication systems between assigned Support Services programs and other agency programs.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and case conferences when appropriate.
- Promote coordinated services and avoid duplication or gaps in service delivery.
- Support agency-wide initiatives and organizational priorities.
Program Development and Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to expand, enhance, or improve assigned programs.
- Assist with the development of new programs, services, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor emerging community needs and recommend appropriate program responses.
- Incorporate participant feedback, staff input, data, and best practices into program planning.
- Lead or participate in special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, or a related field required.
- Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in human services, community services, social services, family services, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing programs and supervising professional staff.
- Experience working in a community-based or nonprofit organization is preferred.
- Experience with program monitoring, compliance, reporting, and performance management preferred.

Performance Expectations:
The Assistant Director of Support Services is expected to:

Working Conditions:
The position requires regular interaction with agency leadership, employees, participants, families, community partners, and external stakeholders. The Assistant Director may be required to travel between agency sites and attend meetings, trainings, community events, and other activities outside of regular business hours as needed.
