Location: Scarsdale, NY

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 2:30pm. (some flexibility for the right candidate). We prefer to hire one consistent staff member; however, we are open to hiring two individuals to share the schedule if needed.

Compensation: $33/hour through Self-Direction Fiscal Intermediary (ISS)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate, outgoing, and energetic Community Habilitation (Com Hab) Specialist to support a young adult woman living in Scarsdale who uses a power wheelchair. The ideal candidate is patient, creative, reliable, and enjoys building meaningful relationships while helping the client explore her interests, develop new skills, and increase her confidence, communication, and independence. Please note: A valid driver's license is required. While driving is not currently a responsibility of this position, it may become part of the role in the future once a trusting relationship has been established.

Responsibilities:

Community-Based Supports:

Support the client in accessing and participating in community activites.
Explore volunteer opportunities that match the client's interests and strengths.
Assist with community outings, including shopping (especially for clothing and personal items), recreational activities, and social opportunities.
Encourage independence, safety, and confidence while navigating community settings.

In-Home Supports:

Assist the client with creative fine motor activities, including: Scrapbooking, Arts and crafts.
Support the client in creative projects using a MacBook and iPad.
Assist with preparing simple meals and snacks, including cutting food into small pieces as needed during meals.
Help the client develop new hobbies and interests.
Encourage the use of the client's AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device when the client has difficulty communicating her wants and needs.

Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities, autism, or related populations is preferred.
Friendly, patient, dependable, enthusiastic, and a good listener.
Comfortable encouraging communication, self-advocacy, and independence.
Intermediate proficiency using a MacBook and iPad.
Ability to think creatively, overcome obstacles, and introduce new hobbies, activities, and community experiences.
Valid driver's license required.

Pay: $33.00 per hour
