Full Job Description

HudsonWay Immersion School is an independent Mandarin and Spanish immersion school serving students from Preschool through Grade 8. We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and experienced Elementary English Language Arts Teacher who is passionate about literacy instruction, student-centered learning, and fostering a joyful classroom where every child can thrive.

The ideal candidate is committed to academic excellence, values collaboration, and believes in nurturing the whole child. While English Language Arts is taught in English, teachers work closely with immersion language teachers to provide an integrated and engaging educational experience.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction for elementary students.
Develop students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills through evidence-based instructional practices.
Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners.
Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
Provide targeted intervention and enrichment to support student growth.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes student independence and respect.
Collaborate with immersion language teachers, specialists, and grade-level colleagues to support student success.
Communicate effectively and professionally with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
Maintain accurate student records and complete required reports in accordance with school policies.
Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other school responsibilities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field (required).
Master's degree preferred.
New York State Elementary Education certification (or eligibility to obtain certification) preferred.
Minimum of three years of successful elementary classroom teaching experience.
Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, reading and writing development, differentiated instruction, and assessment practices.
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to collaboration, continuous professional growth, and student-centered learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching in an independent school or language immersion setting.
Experience implementing evidence-based literacy programs such as Fundations, UFLI Foundations, Heggerty, Wilson Fundations, Fountas & Pinnell, or similar structured literacy and phonics programs.
Experience using assessment data to drive instruction, intervention, and enrichment.
Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning tools that support literacy instruction.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
