Company Overview
PayComp is transforming how businesses manage workers’ compensation insurance premiums. Our proprietary platform, the WOPR (Workers’ Compensation Operational Payroll Reporter), integrates directly with payroll providers to deliver real-time, accurate premium reporting to insurance carriers. By replacing outdated estimates with actual payroll data, PayComp eliminates year-end audit surprises and gives businesses greater control over their cash flow. Our go-to-market strategy is built around three key stakeholder channels: insurance carrier partnerships, payroll provider partnerships, and independent insurance brokers across the United States.

Job Summary
The Director of Sales and Marketing will be responsible for building and executing PayComp’s go-to-market strategy across all three stakeholder channels. This individual will drive revenue growth by developing insurance carrier and payroll provider partnerships, expanding PayComp’s presence in the independent insurance broker community, and building the brand awareness and demand generation engine needed to scale the business. This is a leadership role that requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution in a fast-growing startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth

Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to drive adoption of the PayComp platform across insurance carriers, payroll providers, and independent insurance brokers.
Build and manage the sales pipeline, from lead generation and qualification through proposal, negotiation, and close.
Set and achieve revenue targets, forecasting accurately and reporting on key sales metrics to leadership.
Identify and prioritize high-value carrier and payroll provider partnerships that align with PayComp’s integration roadmap and market opportunity.
Develop pricing strategies and partnership models (e.g., revenue share, licensing, per-transaction) tailored to each stakeholder channel.

Insurance Carrier Partnerships

Build and maintain relationships with workers’ comp carriers, positioning PayComp as a strategic technology partner
Develop carrier-specific value propositions and ROI-driven business cases for WOPR integration
Align carrier sales efforts with integration timelines in partnership with the Technology Solutions Manager
Represent PayComp at industry events, conferences, and carrier meetings to grow the network

Payroll Provider Partnerships

Identify and develop partnerships with payroll providers to enable seamless WOPR data integration
Create co-marketing and co-selling programs to drive shared growth and retention
Negotiate partnership agreements, data-sharing terms, and integration commitments
Align payroll partnerships with integration timelines alongside the Technology Solutions Manager

Broker Channel Development

Build and scale PayComp’s distribution channel through independent brokers and agencies
Develop onboarding programs, training materials, and sales toolkits for brokers
Create incentive and referral programs to drive adoption and reward performance
Maintain regular broker communication via webinars, newsletters, events, and outreach
Collect broker feedback on market needs, competition, and product enhancements to guide strategy

Marketing & Brand Building

Develop and execute PayComp’s marketing strategy, including brand positioning, messaging, and content strategy tailored to each stakeholder audience (carriers, payroll providers, brokers, and end-clients).
Build and manage the demand generation engine, including digital marketing, content marketing, email campaigns, SEO/SEM, social media, and paid advertising.
Plan and manage PayComp’s presence at industry events, trade shows, and conferences (e.g., American Agents Alliance, NCCI events, industry association meetings).
Create compelling sales collateral, case studies, white papers, and presentations that communicate PayComp’s value proposition.
Manage the company website and digital presence to ensure it effectively converts visitors into leads and partners.
Track and analyze marketing performance metrics, optimizing spend and strategy based on data-driven insights.

Market Intelligence & Competitive Strategy

Monitor the competitive landscape across workers’ compensation technology, pay-as-you-go solutions, and InsurTech to identify threats and opportunities.
Conduct market research to understand evolving needs of carriers, payroll providers, and brokers, informing product development and go-to-market strategy.
Analyze industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics that impact the workers’ compensation and payroll ecosystems.
Provide strategic recommendations to leadership on market positioning, expansion opportunities, and new revenue streams.

Team Building & Leadership

Build and lead the sales and marketing function, hiring and developing team members as PayComp scales.
Establish sales processes, CRM workflows, and reporting frameworks to create a scalable and data-driven sales organization.
Collaborate cross-functionally with the Technology Solutions Manager, development team, and leadership to ensure alignment between go-to-market efforts and product delivery.
Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement within the sales and marketing team.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of experience in sales, business development, or marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role.
Demonstrated success building and scaling B2B sales channels, preferably involving partnerships, channel sales, or platform distribution models.
Experience selling to or partnering with insurance carriers, payroll providers, or financial services organizations.
Strong understanding of the independent insurance broker/agency distribution model.
Proven ability to develop and execute both sales and marketing strategies with measurable results.
Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and marketing automation tools.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a startup environment—comfortable building from scratch, wearing multiple hats, and moving fast.
Willingness to travel as needed for partner meetings, industry events, and conferences.
