Full Job Description

Location: Virginia Beach / Norfolk / Chesapeake, VA

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

Services: Community Engagement, Community Coaching, and Supported Living

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them in daily living activities and promoting their independence. You will work closely with clients in various settings, including individual's homes, supported living homes, and community environments, ensuring their safety, well-being, and quality of life.

Available Positions & Schedules

Please review the available shifts below. You will have the opportunity to specify your preferred position(s) during the hiring process.

Position 102: Lead DSP for Supported Living

Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (25 hours per week + coverage when needed)
Pay: $19.00/hour.
Note: This position requires a high level of organization and time management.

Position 104: DSP Supported Living (SL)

Hours: Sunday 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday & Tuesday 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM split between two SL homes (24 hours per week)
Pay: $17.00/hour

Position 107: DSP Community Engagement (CE)

Hours: Wednesday–Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours per week)
Pay: $17.00/hour
Note: This position includes mileage reimbursement.

Position 108: DSP Community Engagement (CE)

Hours: Sunday–Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours per week)
Pay: $17.00/hour
Note: This position includes mileage reimbursement.

Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical & Mission Support: Execute all duties with the Agency’s mission in mind. Develop supportive rapport and provide solution-focused support.
ISP Implementation: Identify individual strengths and goals; accurately document progress on outcomes by the end of the same day.
Personal Care (ADLs): Assist with hygiene, restroom use, bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation. Use equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers when necessary.
Community Integration: Provide transportation for community functions and accompany individuals into the community; implement HCBS settings requirements.
Health & Safety: Monitor vital signs and overall health status. Supervise medication administration as prescribed and strictly adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality ethics.
Financial Stewardship: Safeguard individual funds and complete all required financial documentation per agency policy.
Professional Growth: Attend 20 hours of annual mandatory training and participate in staff meetings.

Physical Requirements

Ability: Must be able to lift 40–100 lbs unassisted and 100+ lbs assisted.
Mobility: Reach above the head and below the knees; perform repetitive hand motions; pull/push a wheelchair; and maintain a rapid reaction response for safety.

Mandatory Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a DSP or working with the Developmental Disability population (must be clearly stated on your resume).
Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
Health: Must provide a clear TB test result from within the last year.
Licensure: Valid Driver’s License and a registered vehicle with proof of active insurance in your name.
Background: Must successfully pass all criminal background checks and drug screenings.
Certification: Current CPR certification (Note: We can provide training/recertification if needed).

Training & Probationary Period

During the initial 60-day probationary period, the employee must demonstrate competency in:

Core Certifications: Passing DSP Orientation, Therapeutic Options of Virginia (TOVA), and First Aid/CPR.
Technical Skills: Person-Centered Documentation and proper lifting/pushing techniques.
Reliability: Consistent attendance, punctuality, and professional responsibility.
