Description & Details:

The Writing Consultation Coordinator provides professional leadership for the Center for Writers’ consultation services, writing-support programming, and faculty-facing outreach, with primary responsibility for coordinating daily consultations, consultant mentoring, and developing undergraduate writing-support initiatives. The position helps sustain the CFW’s core service and programming model by ensuring that student employees are prepared to provide collaborative, ethical, and institutionally responsive writing support for NDSU students, faculty, and staff.

The Coordinator translates the CFW’s service model into daily practice by training and mentoring consultants, coordinating consultation coverage and student-staff work, and providing professional guidance and direct interventions for complex or sensitive writing situations. Through observation, feedback, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development, the Coordinator supports student employees as peer educators while helping ensure consistent, responsive consultation services. The position also connects individual consultations to broader instructional efforts by collaborating with faculty and campus partners on classroom-connected support, workshops, outreach, assessment, and undergraduate writing initiatives.

The Coordinator advances the CFW’s broader role as a campus resource for writing, connecting day-to-day student support with undergraduate student success, graduate research writing, faculty-coordinated instruction, and cross-campus partnerships. In collaboration with CFW staff, faculty partners, and campus units, the position helps identify emerging writing needs and translate them into responsive programming, outreach, and assessment aligned with the Center’s mission and NDSU’s educational and research priorities.

Work Schedule: 9-month, full time

Hiring Range: $47,063 - $55,000

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree and two or more years of professional experience teaching, tutoring, consulting, or otherwise supporting student writers in a college, university, writing center, writing program, or writing-aligned academic support setting.
Leadership experience training or mentoring student staff, peer educators, or comparable developing professionals.
Demonstrated expertise in process-based writing instruction, writing center pedagogy, peer tutoring, collaborative writing support, or related approaches to student-centered writing instruction.
Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities and exercise professional judgment in student-facing or faculty-facing contexts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Composition, Writing Center Studies, English, Applied Linguistics/TESOL, Communication, Education, or a terminal degree in a closely related field.
Professional or applied experience as an editor, publisher, proposal, or technical writer in research, professional, non-profit, government, or industry communication.
Experience developing or coordinating writing-related programming, administration, or assessment, such as workshops, classroom-connected support, writing groups, outreach initiatives, annual reporting, appointment systems, or program documentation.
